The clocks went back this weekend which always signals that winter is on its way. I’ve been spending more time at home, choosing cosy nights in over heading out in the cold. All this extra time spent at home means I want my home to be a cosy, inviting space. I want to turn my home into my own personal cosy retreat. Where I can relax and unwind and keep warm during those winter storms. If you’ve been thinking the same thing, it doesn’t take much to transform our homes into a cosy retreat. Here are 5 simple ways to make your home feel cosy and inviting this autumn. Pile on the blankets and cushi ..read more

I don’t know about you but there seems to always be something preventing me from switching off and relaxing. Whether it’s the sudden need to clean the kitchen, do the laundry or just the mental chatter which won’t shut up there is always something preventing me from fully switching off. As I mentioned in my slowing down for the summer post, I’m coming out of a busy period in my life and needed time to slow down and relax. Whilst it’s important to accept that life sometimes gets busy and we need to go with the flow. It’s also important to embrace the gaps and learn to slow down and relax. Howev ..read more

My Evolving Colour Palette
The Sustainable Edit | Ethical Fashion and Lifestyle Blog

Summer has finally arrived here in Scotland and I’m reaching for the more colourful pieces in my wardrobe. There is definitely something about seeing the sunshine which makes me want to dress a little cheerier. For the longest time, there wasn’t any ‘real’ colour in my wardrobe. But over the last couple of years, that has changed and I’ve explored dressing a little more colourfully. Today I want to chat about how my colour palette has evolved over time and share some tips if you want to switch up your colour palette without buying a whole new wardrobe. Creating a Colour Story When you have a c ..read more

Slowing Down For Summer
The Sustainable Edit | Ethical Fashion and Lifestyle Blog

I’m coming out of a busy period and preparing to slow down for the summer. As much as I advocate slow and simple living sometimes it’s OK to admit your busy. Hopefully, it’s the kind of busy you choose but even if it isn’t then hopefully it will end soon. My recent busy period has been a mix of work and life, unfortunately, I haven’t been busy through choice. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to simplify and live at a slower pace again. Life always seems to slow down and relax in the summer. Which is so welcome after a busy spring. This su ..read more

Life Beyond The Capsule Wardrobe
The Sustainable Edit | Ethical Fashion and Lifestyle Blog

It’s been a year since I made the big decision to quit my capsule wardrobe. I used capsule wardrobes for a couple of years and felt like I’d taken the concept as far as I could. My capsule wardrobe journey changed the way I think about fashion and my personal style. It gave me the tool I needed to end my negative relation with fast fashion and embrace the slow fashion movement. I wanted to check in with you to share my thoughts on this decision a year later. Do I still think it was the right decision? Or will the capsule wardrobe be returning? What Parts I’m Sticking With One of my favourite a ..read more

How To Fit Slow Living Into Your Busy Day
The Sustainable Edit | Ethical Fashion and Lifestyle Blog

That aspirational slow living lifestyle can often seem unattainable. Especially when you work full time and don’t have the luxury of taking big chunks out of your day to enjoy those slow living rituals. But slow living isn’t about spending your days relaxing in the countryside (although if that’s what you want then more power to you). Instead, it’s about giving yourself permission to make time for the things you enjoy. That could be something as simple as taking a proper break to enjoy your morning coffee. Slow living doesn’t need to take up much time. Here I’ve put together a list of activiti ..read more

January can be a tough month. What with those pretty twinkling Christmas lights coming down, long cold days, and trying to make December’s pay last long enough. Add it the pressure to make resolutions and lose weight its a tough month. Which is why making time for some self-care is important. I know I’m very guilty of letting looking after myself slide down to the bottom of the priority list. But it really should be right up to top. After all, you can’t pour from an empty cup. This is why I want to start incorporating some self-care habits into my routine this year. I’m sure there is lots I ca ..read more

My Word of the Year
The Sustainable Edit | Ethical Fashion and Lifestyle Blog
by Jen

I’m not a huge fan of new year’s resolutions. The whole new year, new me thing feels like setting yourself up for failure. Especially as the focus is often rather negative. However a few years ago I started setting myself a word of the year. This isn’t about setting yourself a long list of things you want to achieve (or change) but rather is about setting an intention for the year ahead. Your word of the year should reflect your intentions for the year ahead and help you as you make decisions and plans throughout the year. I purposefully didn’t spend too much time thinking about what my w ..read more
