Orchid & Succulent Arrangement

Succulents and Orchids have basically the same water requirements, but don’t necessarily have the same soil requirements. This hasn’t stopped us from creating really pretty arrangements that combine the two, but whenever we share the pictures online, we get a ton of questions about how that works, if the orchid is planted in soil, etc. Check out how we plant both plants in the same container below, while keeping the two different plant types equally happy! Vertical Plant Pocket Wall Garden

One of our favorite ways to utilize a blank outdoor wall and bring a little more life to a space is by installing a vertical wall garden. We have done a few different styles of wall gardens in the past, usually with succulents. Vertical plant displays makes a space feel so much more organic and lush, sometimes without much effort at all. You can do planter boxes, pots, or felt pockets like the ones we used in this project. You can also do the forward facing succulent wall gardens, etc. There are so many options for putting plants up on a wall. We are in the process of transforming Elliott’s ..read more

Pointy succulents can be tricky to work with some times!⁣ We thought we would share just a few quick tips on how we go about planting them to hopefully help you out! For this project we used three small 2 inch plants – a Whisker Cactus, a Blue Torch Cactus, and an Agave Colorata, we think! The pots we used for this video are really neat 3D printed planters, and are composed of an eco-friendly, biodegradable corn and wood material. They are made by Minimum Design and can be found on Etsy. Helpful Tools: Screwdriver Brush Gloves – We didn’t use them here, but wearing gloves is always a good id ..read more

Benefits of Removing Dried Succulent Leaves & Blooms
Dalla Vita
by Cali Dunn Godfrey

We think one of the most satisfying things about growing succulents is getting to pull off all the dried leaves around the base of your plant. There is something so fun and genuinely therapeutic about it, making it an extremely relaxing and pleasurable experience for most people. Aside from that fun fact, we strongly recommend you remove any dried leaves and blooms for your plant’s health as well. Doing this simple task will help to keep your plants happy and healthy. Removing Dried Leaves and Blooms – Why do it?… New growth, New plants, New Blooms By removing any spent, dried up bloom stalks ..read more

Living Room Makeover – Before & After
Dalla Vita

We recently decided to lend our hand in helping our parents do a fireplace, living room makeover. Their fireplace & mantle situation was pretty outdated for their style and it didn’t really make sense for the flow of the room.  The Before The fireplace was surrounded by a brick facade and a brick hearth that extended towards the right half of the room. This layout made the room feel totally off balance and squatty, especially with the TV down low and the couches facing the corner, away from the rest of the space. Inspiration We came across this living room, fireplace design by N ..read more

Building a Raised Planter Bed with a Trellis | DIY
Dalla Vita
by Dalla Vita Team

We’ve been on a raised bed building kick for the past few weeks now, trying to make better use of some of the bare areas in our backyard. We realized with all these empty spaces we could be growing more of our own food to eat and also more flowering plants to help the pollinators out a bit.  But another great way to take advantage of even more empty space is to incorporate a trellis into these beds so we can grow plants vertically too. We have a pretty bad gopher problem in our yard so we can’t really plant plants in the ground. Raised beds solve this problem for us and adding a tr ..read more

Studio Apartment | Nursery Tour
Dalla Vita

It’s pretty unusual to have a full nursery in a studio apartment, but that is exactly what we set out to do here. My husband, Billy, and I were expecting our first child this past January, and we knew we wanted to continue living in our studio apartment because we love it so much. We’ve lived in this apartment for about four years, and since moving in no major updates had been made. Having a baby though, was the big push we needed to finally get the renovation ball rolling. If you missed our makeovers on our kitchen and living spaces be sure to check those out to see how we transformed our s ..read more

Studio Apartment Renovation | Living Room, Bedroom, Bathroom

If you didn’t catch the first part of Cali’s studio apartment reno project, we fixed up her kitchen space. Basically what we did there was paint the cabinets, refinish the floor, we added some more storage, and built out a more functional dining space. Once we completed all of that, our focus was then to make some updates to the rest of the studio living spaces and the bathroom. Sources: Plant Basket Being that the bedroom area and living area are in the same room in a studio style space like this, it takes some creative thinking as far as laying everything out on it’s own. But on top of t ..read more

Studio Apartment Renovation | Kitchen Makeover

For a while now Cali has wanted to make some changes to her studio apartment that she shares with her husband Billy, dog, Wesley, and now son, Liam. We ended up pulling the trigger on her wishlist of improvements a few months prior to baby Liam’s due date, and we finished just in time for his arrival. The size of the studio is small but it has a lot of character. One of the main features of the space is the beam work that spans along the vaulted ceiling. These beams really give it that bungalow, cozy feel. It has a kitchen, living area large enough for a king size bed, space for a living roo ..read more

A Fresh, Coastal Home Staging Project
Dalla Vita
by Dalla Vita Team

A few months ago, we had the opportunity to stage this super sweet Montecito Beach House. It is a 3 bedroom, 4 bathroom house around 2700 square feet, nestled in the Butterfly Beach enclave. Our main goal with this project was just to make the home feel a little more airy and lived in. Being that this house is so close to the beach, it seemed only fitting that we have some beachy accents and colorways throughout the house. Also there is a massive surfboard in the kitchen, so it would be hard to ignore the coastal ties/vibe. We knew we wanted to keep the decor clean and simple, but still fun ..read more
