I coach a U16 men’s club team and think they could benefit from seeing what they did well and what they need to work on.
I also think the competition between players comparing their rankings would be good for the team as a whole.

Not sure if it’s correlated but pre match warm up with a deliberate focus on fun with partners / pairs this year is a going well.
So far we’ve had a super great bond and team spirit and are 5-1-0. (I don’t care if you don’t keep score, the kids do)
Passing gates and then a few two v two and then red rover. Seems to make them less nervous and ready to listen before the game starts.
Keen for your pre match routines?!

I inherited an extra u10 team this season. My assistant coach and I decided we would just have the 2 teams practice together, and then make sure at least one of us could make their games too. The one team has multiple players that are in their fourth season with us as their coaches and multiple others that specifically asked to be on this team. The other has never played together before at all. They do have some kids that can play, but they are just far less experienced overall.
Joint practices have been like an impossible puzzle to me. On one hand, I feel like the team that is ready to reall ..read more

It’s been a rough season so far (last season as well)
We’ve given up an average of 4.5 goals a game through 7 games against teams I didn’t think were better than us. Today we were 0-0 at half time and ended up losing 2-1 by giving up a goal with no time left. We have another tournament this weekend so hopefully we build upon it. We had plenty of opportunities to score just didn’t finish.

U12 rec team. 9v9.
I'm lucky (or cursed) to have 4 kids who want to be in the net. 3 are of various average skill. One is pretty good. Since it's rec I kinda feel obligated to let all 4 kids play during the season. I just try to limit how long I leave them in there.
Team is a mixed bag of skill level. From average to pretty damn good. Team is not great defensively.
Previously we going a 3-3-2 however it didn't work well defensively in front of Gk2-4. . Should I think about having 4 defenders and do something like 4-2-2 or 4-3-1 in front of gk2-4?

I’m coaching my son’s team in a u6 league. Here’s my reality: -we play 7v7, 6 on field with a goalie -the team I have is 14 kids. -the experience and size difference is massive, some kids are TINY and just came from the little kickers league that to me, is useless- the kids literally are 3-4 in that league and scrimmage each other!! (Why!?!?) - the other kids who have u6 experience are older, taller and more advanced.
How do I teach, to the older advanced or help the littles understand the game?
We’re three practices in and I’m attempting to balance both and move to teach the rules but this e ..read more

Well, after a 1-1-2 start today my rec 8u boys beat an “academy” team. My kids have been together 8 games and are now 5-1-2. Academy team practices year round. We won 3-1!!! Shocking upset!
But….
Today, a parent (mom) shouted to her son at GK to stay in the net. He had just come out 6 feet and dove on a ball that was in cluster. Exactly what I want.
Parents are often giving the kids conflicting directions.
But today, I shouted out for the GK to keep playing exactly like that. Dont listen to the parents, listen to me, you are playing perfect I said. I then told all the kids to listen to me, on ..read more

we have lost 4-2, 8-0 and today 2-1. I have changed from 1-2-3-3 formation to 1-2-2-4 to try and generate more offense. The opposing teams shots on goal vs. our shots on goal is hugely lopsided in their favor. I've told them in practice, before the games and at halftime. I have drawn it on on the clipboard and demonstrated what I want on the field. In our league most teams station 2 defensive players at the 18 yard line just a few feet wide of the penalty arc. I want 2 or 3 of my offensive players to stand even with those players (so as not to be offsides). Instead my offense creeps up and st ..read more

Today was a very weird day and I felt like it was a test in so many aspects; a test that I failed.
So our opponents show up with only six players on the roster (we play 7v7, U9). The other teams coach approaches me and ask if we can go 6v6 so they don’t have to forfeit the game. My entire roster showed up so I already felt bad that I had subs yet they couldn’t field a whole team. I accepted her offer and went 6v6.
Kick off. Games is going great. My team scores right away and everyone is talking to each other. I feel a tap on my shoulder and it’s the parent of the girl who just scored.
