Viltrox K60 an affordable bright tube light

This is the Viltrox K60 and it is one of the brightest affordable two foot RGB tube lights you can get. Lets go to some of my light test results. I put the light at 100% and changed the color temperature and measured the light at 1 meter. Though there are not a lot of situations where you would use 8500 kelvin, it is the brightest. The brightness does drop going down the kelvin values. But it is still brighter than the tubes Amaran and Nanlite are offering at the same price. It is competing more with the more expensive Astera Helios Tube. Values measured at 100% light placed at 1 meter. 8500k ..read more

Chungking Express Voice Overs 重慶森林配音

Voice overs, some filmmakers love them, some truly hate it. To improve myself as a screenplay writer, I should learn how to write good voice overs. A film that I can remember with great voice overs is Chungking Express, so why not just learn from one the best filmmakers from Hong Kong, which is Wong Kar Wai. Like anybody, Wong Kar Wai had to learn to add voice overs as they are clearly missing in his first two films “As tears goes by” and “Days for being wild”. Even though Chungking express came out as the 3rd film, the 3rd film Wong Kar Wai produced was Ashes of time, where we can notice he ..read more

Fallen Angels Wide Angle Lens

Most noticeable about Wong Kar Wai Fallen Angels 1995 is its use of wide angle lenses. In this video I am going to show you which wide angle lens you can purchase to get the same look. But first we need to find out which camera was used, to know which sensor the lens should cover. Luckily back 1995 there weren’t that many Cinema cameras and its known Wong Kar Wai used an Arriflex BL4 from 1988 till 1997, before switching to Panaflex in 2000. Arriflex BL4 super 35mm film camera, so we mainly need a lens that covers super35 or an APSC sensor. Now to the focal length we need. Online discussion a ..read more

Posterize Time , Slow Shutter and Step Printing

I’ve noticed a lot of misconceptions around these techniques and want to teach them properly and analyze different shots on how to achieve them. Many think this is the style of Christopher Doyle, however if you really follow his cinematography, it’s not a common technique he uses outside his works with Wong Kar Wai. The cinematographer who truly mastered all 3 techniques is Andrew Lau, who was the DOP of As Tears Goes By which is the first movie Wong Kar Wai ever directed. But also worked as a cinematographer on Days of Being Wild, Chungking Express and Ashes of Time. 2 years prior to working ..read more

I made my First Lens Housing!

Previous video already sneaked in the lens housing, but this article am explaining why I made this cine lens housing for my TTartisan 35mm f1.4 lens. The TTartisan 35mm f1.4 is a really great small tiny lens that can capture amazing looking images. But they made very odd choices in its design, making it more difficult to use for filmmakers. Especially when you need to add focus gear rings to use with a follow focus. As the angled side just would make it impossible to mount a focus gear ring, so I would need to design a DIY lens housing which would fix this issue. But I have a background in p ..read more

While working on filmsets I notice we often have an issue where the Cinesaddle is too tall and often rely on putting down a sandbag to prop up the camera. However the main issue is that sandbag are quite heavy and not every furniture could handle the weight and also a heavy camera on top. It a fairly easy build all you need is a new empty sandbag and fill it up with bean bag fillings. Amazon Sandbag – https://amzn.to/45iUr53 Polystyrene beads – https://amzn.to/3LfVCKX The Mini camera saddle can be use in a few ways, so normally the double layer so it prop it up as much as possible or fold it ..read more
