Optimal Hosting Choices

We have two subscription sites. One is a PHP site that has (at most) 50-100 concurrent users. One is a WP site that has long detailed interviews that are saved and reused and a robust forum group. At a given time there could be 50 people in the interviews, answering questions and saving the answers. An addition 200 could be in the forums at any given time. Our sites are running slow on SiteGround. We have tried GoDaddy and Host_nger. All are slow. So the question - advice on hosting that will give us rapid page loads and handle our traffic. Thank you in advance. submitted by /u/OneWoman305 ..read more

If a person rents space on a webhost..can they choose which data center their code gets put on? I mean, if they are on the east coast..and then the webhost has 3 data centers in USA, for ex in NYC, Texas, and California..does it automatically go on east coast, or, do they request it?

Migrating from Plesk to something like migadu / Purelymail. DNS question.

If you have a mail server at mail.domain.com but are migrating through the online optons, you are still to update the DNS for domain.com You will be moving emails from domain.com to domain.com, so how does the migration work as DNS will point to one server but you are moving to the same domain via the mirgations tools. For example imap sync. submitted by /u/totallihype [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Transferred domain to new reg, but web.com still shows it in the list as active

Has anyone else had this issue with domains on web.com? They recently bought the affordable reg I used to use and when they took it over, they jacked the prices to over twice of what it was instantly. So I have been transferring my domains away from them to a new reg. One domain has been transferred for close to a week now to the new reg (others pending). Whois shows it as the new reg and everything. But web.com still shows it in its own domain list as active, threatening that it will renew in a few weeks. Anyone else have this issue with them? So far, I can't vouch for that company at all ..read more

The U.S. Department of Commerce is pushing to require the IaaS industry (infrastructure as a service, ex: AWS and other virtual machine hosts) to verify customer identities with bank-grade KYC: The proposed rule would institute a CIP requirement for U.S. IaaS providers akin to the “know your customer” requirements applicable to banks, introducing a complex compliance protocol that will require resources and lead time. ( That's from the summary at NatLawReview, worth reading ) From the rule text, this would affect: any product or service offered to a consumer, including complimentary or “tr ..read more

How hard is it to switch domain and hosting services?

Please understand you are talking to a very non-technical person who probably does not know a lot of the jargon that is usually common knowledge in a forum like this. My domain and hosting services were through mydomain.com for years and I never had an issue. Recently it was sold to web.com and I have had nothing but problems. For example right now there is an issue with the SSL for my site and my site is currently inaccessible because of it. Visitors to my site get an error message saying that the connection is not private and my site may be trying to steal their password or credit card info ..read more

Website selling e-commerce bundle for 85 dollars, is it worth it?

Hi, there’s this e-commerce monthly plan on a local website and it’s for 85 dollars. It says that it has a collaboration with a local, trusted company (like PayPal) so that I don’t need to get bank’s virtual poses, it has Wordpress themes in it, and a hosting panel. I would like to set up an e-commerce site but with my veryyy beginner Wordpress knowledge, would this be worth dealing with for a full fledged e-commerce website where I sell my goods? (I can do graphic design, understand verrrry basic html & php, can navigate through the Wordpress interface and know how to use FileZilla.) Tha ..read more

If you go to a webhost and get a VPS there, can a person normally choose what version of Linux is used to run their code, or, are they basically at the behest of whoever owns the servers and what software they've put on it? People choose what code to put on the server, but, also what runs it?

Im trying to transfer my domain away from 123-Reg due to their shocking / none-existent tech support. I registered the domain 15 years ago and been with them ever since Their page here has clear instructions on how to do it: https://www.123-reg.co.uk/support/domains/transferring-a-tld-domain-away-from-123-reg-co-uk/ But when I check my account, it doesnt line up with the instructions. All I have is the ability to switch between 123-Reg accounts or transfer a domain to 123-Reg not away from them I've posted another support ticket but Im really not expecting a reply anytime soon submitted by ..read more
