Judy has been doing some experimental work - the feature of this one is a waterfall. Enda is holding the donation community quilt that she finished the binding on. Anne donated four of these bright bassinet quilts for the maternity unit. Vicky is holding up a donation quilt that she finished up after community quilts day. I can't remember what this one is, but I'm pretty sure that's Daryl holding it up and so I think it's either a donation quilt or she is showing us one of her scrap quilts. The next few quilts are all scrap quilts that Daryl has made over the years.  We w ..read more

Donation Bassinet Quilts

I missed the last club meeting so I haven't got photos of show and tell. Instead, I was handed a bag of donation bassinet quilts and woollies for the maternity unit where I work.  The bassinet quilts give a much needed boost of colour to the postnatal rooms and make the place feel a little more homely.  We had run very low on quilts so a few months ago I put a call out to the club.  The response has been amazing and our cupboards are getting full of colour and quilted love! I'm taking a guess when I say the woollies were knitted by Jane. The two quilts above were made ..read more

Our March meeting was a community quilts day.  Which means everyone was working on donation quilts that will be given away - our most frequent recipient is Women's Refuge. One of the in progress quilts.  Luckily, we have our dedicated community quilts coordinator, Daryl, to keep projects organised and give everyone a job. We did still do our usual show and tell, and here is Judith with a quilt made for a relative of hers.  The stitching all represents something important in her life. Shirley (in hiding), with a finally finished UFO made from hand-dyed fabrics. Beatri ..read more

Our meetings in January are typically held at a member's house.  The meeting is called 'The Big Day Out' and everyone takes part in a mystery activity organised on behalf.  Sorry - no photos of the day because I didn't attend, but I heard it was great fun as usual! This next lot of photos is from February's show and tell: Ingrid made a sewing machine cover, showcasing all the decorative stitches of her machine. She also made this super cute I Spy quilt, complete with dollies that come out of the pockets. Another of Ingrid's, this one a challenge to use all the fabrics. I ..read more

Janet Greeks came to talk about using rulers while free motion quilting on a domestic sewing machine.  Thanks Janet!  You do beautiful work. Stephanie showed off a finished community quilt that she had sent off to be long arm quilted by Mathea Daunheimer of Esparta Fiber Arts. Ingrid is getting ready for Christmas with this table runner. A gorgeous cushion with the back used as a practice piece for free motion quilting. My memory fails me, but I think this is a community quilt finished off and handed back to be given to Women's Refuge. A community quilt that went to ..read more

It was a small showing for July.  Maybe this means next month will be a big one? Judith and Caroline showed a healing hearts quilt they made with some friends for another friend of theirs. Caroline has also been making bassinet quilts out of leftovers. Last month's class was making these little baskets.  Ingrid turned one into a doll bed. And then used some machine embroidered shoes in this little quiltlet. Beatrice used I Spy applecore blocks and backed them with fleece in these bright kids quilts. That's all for July, see you for August ..read more
