We had so many fun and challenging photo projects at the end of 2023. We traveled to Southern Oregon to capture the AVA’s to the south of us. We got to make a set of inspiring and delicious photos for the people who grow and market Autumn Crisp Grapes. Ponzi Vineyards did a big lifestyle shoot to showcase their updated brands and tasting room. Our friends at AAA Oregon asked them to help show off their mobile charging services for club members. 2023 ended on a strong note for us and we are so excited to see what might be in store for 2024. I’m betting on the best year ever. The ..read more

Examples of Wine Studio Photography

One of our clients for whom we have always shot on location said the other day, “I didn’t know you guys did studio work, too!” This made both John and I laugh because just the season before, another client who hires us for studio work told us that they had no idea we did lifestyle photography on location. Big lesson learned. Now, we always take time to let our clients know about the kinds of work we love to do and that we’re really good at. We are in the midst of getting to know a new, potential client and our conversations have originated around shooting on location. But, I’m taking the time ..read more

Branding Photography for La Biblioteca

La Biblioteca, a wine brand designed to focus on younger customers, reached out to John for a collection of images to support their initial launch. And again, in the following year to continue a new chapter of their brand presence. With the tagline, “Wines are Stories We Pour for Each other”, La Biblioteca imagery riffs off a books and literature theme. The wines, with names like Endpaper and Perfect Bind, include label illustrations that nod to Oregon’s flora and fauna by well-known artist Carson Ellis. The first shoot took place in a stylish hotel bar temporarily closed during Covid. Using ..read more

“Boring Metal Things”

A past client phoned us the other day and asked for a photographer recommendation. She worked with us when she was the lead at a red-hot downtown hotel. Now she’s the VP of marketing at an industrial company that makes brewing equipment. She said that she had hundreds of cast and machined parts that needed photography, and did we know anyone who does this kind of work. I told her, “We do!” With gusto. Our studio is perfect for gigs like this. We can load in from the driveway, work through a whole bunch of parts over as many days are needed. It’s warm, it’s bright, it’s comfortable and we can l ..read more

Hotel Photography at Tu Tu Tun Lodge

Truth be told, I didn’t know what to expect when we arrived to shoot at the Tu Tu Tun Lodge in Gold Beach, Oregon. First, the name was unlike anything I’ve heard of. It sounded esoteric, but the sound of the words didn’t give me any clues. Second: Gold Beach? I thought to myself, “there’s nothing in Gold Beach, is there?” Heading into the shoot, all the conversations with the marketing team were SO informative. Well planned. Thoughtful. I’m thinking–“these peeps really have their stuff together.” This project could potentially be more than the typical coastal hotel gig. But as we rolled up the ..read more

In September, John was out shooting at a very small winery, Franchere. The winemaker, Mike, can trace his family line all the way back to the discovery of Fort Astoria. It’s an interesting story that you can read about on his website. John came home from this project with one of the loveliest grape cluster photos I’ve seen. The post Franchere Winery appeared first on John Valls Commercial Photographer ..read more

A Covid-Safe Winery Photoshoot at Dusky Goose

Despite the multiple challenges Oregonians are facing right now, communicating well with customers still needs to happen. Dusky Goose, a boutique winery in the Dundee Hills was underway with a website update when the pandemic began. We worked with Dusky Goose Operations Manager Pamela McClellan and consultant Chris Cullina to complete a set of photos for their new website that strongly created a sense of place. To keep this shoot Covid-19 safe, we broke the project in two parts. For part one, John and I worked together to style and shoot a set of  beautiful styled bottle shots in and arou ..read more
