Spring & Summer Update – April 21, 2024

For those who’ve been inquiring, our calendar is now updated for the remainder of the week. It’s remarkable that we can even piece together a schedule given how swiftly things change in this industry. Take, for instance, the unexpected occurrence of two emergency repair jobs back-to-back for fixing sprinkler main and drain valves due to flooding hazards. What we initially earmarked Monday and Tuesday for, namely, sprinkler system startups, has been rescheduled. Repairing mains and drains is physically demanding work, and tackling two of them in as many days takes a toll on the body. We’ll do o ..read more

Be prepared. This is probably the longest post I have ever written! Domain Issues: Our domain recently went down due to a renewal issue. Despite having an automatic payment profile set up since 1999, there was a glitch, leaving us in the lurch. Currently, we’re in a back-and-forth with them, but they’ve granted us a 30-day extension to sort it out. In the meantime, I’ve decided to switch to a new domain host. Dealing with tech support was challenging, as it seemed there was a language barrier hindering communication. Surgery Update: My wife underwent knee replacement surgery recently, but the ..read more

We Are Gearing Up For The 2024 Spring & Summer Season

It feels like we just completed sprinkler blowout season about a month ago. As I age, time seems to pass by faster. During last fall’s blowouts, we acquired another compressor, which we plan to equip with an electric reel and 150 feet of hose this year. This will enable us to have 5 machines on the road this fall instead of 4, provided we can find technicians to operate them. The additional machine will allow us to perform approximately 80-100 more blowouts weekly. Our objective is to have 10 machines in operation and to achieve that, we will need to find technicians to operate them. We prefer ..read more

Well, we did it. We made it to what should be our last day unless we get some stragglers that come in over the rest of the week. We will keep the lines open until the weather no longer cooperates. If you are reading this, and your blowout hasn’t been completed yet, and your street isn’t listed below, send a text to (208) 713-3170 and let me know about it. If we haven’t gotten to you, it is most likely we didn’t receive your request. We can have you sign up again while we are monitoring the situation and get you taken care of quickly. We got a little ahead today, so I had to modify the calendar a little. As we wrap up this week other changes will likely be made to the calendar. We are still on par to finish by the end of the day on Thursday. If we get new ones in, (it’s been pretty quiet) we will work them in as we get them. We had a record of FIVE non-cancellations yesterday that we had to invoice. I don’t understand why people can’t just cancel when they no longer need service or at least cancel when they get the text notification the night before. Why customers wait until we plan to be there before they cancel I have no ..read more

This should be our last week in Sprinkler Blowout Land with everyone currently on our list at the time of the writing. Any requests that come in after this moment will be taken care of by Jesse at the end of the week. Our calendar should be pretty accurate at this point, but it is subject to change if needed. We would have likely finished last week and not had we not had to let go of the one we don’t talk about. Mike finished up some blowouts on Saturday that he ran out of time for on Friday, and Brian did the same on Sunday. Jesse has four left over from Friday that we added to the Monday rou ..read more

I will be working on the calendar today and over the weekend so next week’s stops don’t look as generic as they do now. I had to wait and see how this week was going. We would be much further ahead if above-ground backflow and filters had been drained, but we can’t expect that. Another issue we have encountered is customers being “helpful” by leaving the covers off their valve boxes for us. That isn’t helpful the valves will freeze with no protection and we can’t do the blowout until they thaw. Make sure to leave the lids on the valve boxes. Today starts our next price increase for sprinkler b ..read more

“Play it again, Sam!” (misquote from “Play it, Sam” from Ingrid Bergman in “Casablanca.”) Jesse had to go to the hospital Emergency Room Wednesday afternoon, and Brian had a doctor’s appointment regarding his injured ribs, so neither of their routes was completed. Jesse and Brian will pick up where they left off yesterday, with some added stops. It is taking longer to do the blowouts now because there are a number of people not paying attention to all the info we have given about draining their above-ground backflows. A customer told me yesterday that she didn’t even know anything about doing ..read more

Yesterday didn’t go as planned. Todd started hearing a squeal under his hood and stopped to investigate and found that he needs a pulley or two, a serpentine belt, etc., He would be out of commission until Friday afternoon, but I think he is going to try and do the repairs himself Wednesday to save time and quite a bit of money. That would get him back in service faster.  I am going to see if he wants to work the weekend or not. If that is the case I will let everyone know here, plus it will show on the calendar. I am hoping to have that 4th rig out as quickly as possible so we can get do ..read more
