The New Year is a celebration of the past 365 days and looking forward to positive change in the future. Many resolutions are made to live healthier, better, and longer moving forward. Are you planning to do that this upcoming new year? The Problem I'm honestly not impressed with New Year's resolutions and here's why - they are often just a temporary condition. I'm not being a Darla downer here and the biggest cheerleader for those keeping their resolutions to get and stay healthy. I am not a believer in waiting for a New Year to get healthy. The moment is always now to improve yourself IMO ..read more

Healthy eating will differ per person. In fact, we may eat and exercise exactly the same and all of us would look completely different. This is the beauty of body diversity and the reality of life. This is also why fitness is not universal and diets don't work. A few things like genetics, metabolic function, medical conditions, and medications need to be considered for overall health and body composition. That said, the way I eat and exercise may work for me, but may not work for you. However, I am willing to share a few things about me and my daily food intake. About Me I am over 55, a fi ..read more

I have been frustrated with menopause for a while. Just thinking about it can bring on a hot flash. Turning 50 was an exciting time and I still enjoy being in the club. The ongoing hormonal changes my body is experiencing not so much.  I will be talking very candidly about my experience with hormone changes and my body. This is not meant to offend anyone. Going through the change is a subject many are afraid to discuss out of embarrassment, fear, or the belief it should be hush-hush. We have come too far to continue this way of thinking. Health involves discussing all things rel ..read more

Life is filled with hard days and we would rather hide our head tucked under the pillow. Of course, this isn't an option in most cases. What remains important is being able to navigate through everything with healthy responses, attitudes, and choices. I am just like you and not immune to having down days, life challenges, and lacking exercise motivation. These are the days I would appreciate a hard push from a trainer to help get me through. Because not every day goes as planned and nutrition can get off track. Sometimes, it's ok to take a step back and away from the gym when you're tired ..read more

It's never too late and you're never too old to get fit and healthy.   Many people are still believing the myth that aging is a negative process that comes with wrinkles and limitations. This is far from the truth. Older people are living longer, staying healthy, confident, and happy. I have seen men and women become their fittest at 70 and beyond. Age is being redefined as beautiful and an exciting time of becoming the person you always should have been. Age being just a number is really true and exemplified by so many fabulous older people today. Personally, I don't care if my body ..read more

When it comes to fitness more isn't always better. Overtraining, over supplementing, and consuming too much protein can adversely affect your body. More is not better, better is better. Getting fit and maintaining a healthy body is a simple process. It really doesn't require eating loads of protein or grueling workouts to reach your goals. All it takes is a consistent effort of eating right and exercise. Quality over quantity. Focused workouts utilizing differing energy systems of the body throughout the week is sufficient. What this means is mixing up cardio, weight training, core work an ..read more

Why Wait for New Year to Get Healthy

I enjoy the excitement and celebration of New Year but not really a big fan of resolutions. Largely because they fizzle out for many people in a couple of months.  New healthy promises made for the New Year are often replaced by old unhealthy habits. Sad but true. Why Wait to Get Healthy? Why wait for New Year’s to make a positive decision to become a healthier person?  Today is always the best day to make a change. Never put off until tomorrow what can be accomplished today. New Year has been a holiday used as a crutch to continue living unhealthy lives. Why? Because we put off ..read more
