“Paper Wishes” by Tara Knudsen is a lovely children’s book about a boy who is missing his grandparents, as they live very far away. He gets the idea to make an origami love heart, and he posts it to them. He wonders where it is on its journey and whether it will go by plane, train or boat. Eventually he goes on a video call with his loved ones, and he sees that they are delighted as they have received the love heart from the post man. “Paper Wishes” is a sweet book that provides directions on how to make your very own paper wish to mail to loved ones. It might be helpful for young children to ..read more

You don’t have to be Jewish to enjoy matzo ball soup. To start off the Passover meal, many families enjoy matzo ball soup. It is traditionally a chicken and vegetable soup with dumplings made out of matzo meal (or ground matzo) and is usually one the kids’ favorite part of the dinner. I add shredded chicken to the soup as well. Here is a quick and easy recipe I found in my Grandmother’s recipe box. Be sure to let the kids help hand roll the matzo balls! You will Need: 1 pkg. (4.5 oz) matzo ball mix 4 eggs 1/2 cup vegetable oil 2 tsp. salt 64 oz. chicken or vegetable broth 3 large carrots, sli ..read more

Work with the children to make a house out of matzo and other Kosher edible treats and materials. I found this idea on the Martha Stewart web site but allowed the children to use kosher candies, chocolate covered matzoh, and macarons to decorate their Passover house. It is so fun to do and although not perfect, it is fun to do and makes a wonderful addition to the Seder table.  You Will Need: Matzo Sheets Chocolate Covered Matzo (optional) Serrated Knife Paper Plate Soup Cans Chocolate Hazelnut Spread or Frosting ZipLoc Bag or Piping Bag Kosher Jelly Candies Macaroons What to Do: 1. I love using children’s books to prepare kids for new experiences. On April 8, 2024, millions of Americans will experience an awe-inspiring phenomenon: a total eclipse of the sun. Here are some great books on the topic I found at the local library and bought on Amazon to help the kids prepare for the unforgettable event. Sun, Moon, Earth by Tyler Nordgren In Sun, Moon, Earth, astronomer Tyler Nordgren illustrates how this most seemingly unnatural of natural phenomena was transformed from a fearsome omen to a tourist attraction. What kid doesn’t like bunnies — especially when Easter is right around the corner? I found this project at beafunmum.com and a 7-year-old child I care for made these bunny ears hat out of a paper plate all by herself. If you want the hat to be a snug fit for a particular child’s head, make a cut at the back of the bans and reposition the edges together to fit around the head. Tape to secure. You can purchase the supplies needed for this project by tapping the links below or by visiting my Amazon storefront. I may earn a small profit from purchases made by affiliate links on this blog and stor ..read more
