Unfortunately there are virtually no relevant Portuguese brands in the photography gear market, except for one notable brand, called Terrascape, who make very interesting filter bags, designed by photographers for photographers. Two months ago I accepted the invitation to meet the owner of the brand, who is also the creator of the Terrascape bags. What was supposed to be a quick chat, scheduled to personally deliver me some of the new Terrascape products, turned into a long nostalgia chat about everything related with the evolution of landscape photography, as well as into a detailed descripti ..read more

BenQ SW270C Monitor Review

BenQ has finally launched the SW270C monitor, the successor to the best selling 27 inch SW2700PT model, which has been a favorite among budget conscious photographers. I had the pleasure to be one of the first European photographers to test the new SW270C, and made sure I would put it through its paces during one whole month before writing this review. In my opinion, reviewing a piece of photography gear implies actually using that piece of gear for an extended amount of time.  There is a clear divide between a simple and quick product description disguised as a review, and  a real objective d ..read more

I have been testing the new Nisi V6 Filter Holder System Kit over the last months, so finally here is my review of this very interesting piece of kit. It was long ago, but I can still remember the time I spent testing the now ancient Nisi V3 holder. Nisi was a very small brand at that time, and who would have thought they would become one of the major players in the filters industry? After the V3, Nisi kept launching new and improved holder systems, namely the V5 and V5 Pro, which I’ve used for hundreds of hours, and now I finally got the chance to test their brand new V6 system. Before we mov ..read more

Has BenQ found a way to make it possible for photographers to bring along a large editing monitor during their travels? Read on to find out… Laptop screen technology has evolved a lot during the last years, with brands making sure they have some models with proper IPS panel displays which cover at least 99% of the sRGB color space, so now you can edit images when you are not at home with a certain degree of confidence in your colors. Still, nothing compares with editing your images on a proper desktop screen, not only because it shows greater levels of detail and better color definition, but a ..read more

Following my review of the 27 inch BenQ SW2700PT, which had a very interesting reception from my readers, BenQ Europe sent me their smaller and younger brother, the 24 inch SW240, for review. The Quest For The Best Photography Gloves – Vallerret Markhof Pro and competitors

Sorry for the excessively epic title, but after almost freezing my hands during an Iceland photo trip, a long search for proper winter gloves, that would be both warm and ergonomical for operating a camera, had just begun… :-) For many years most of my photo career was based on shooting the gorgeous Portuguese seascapes and landscapes. Even though our winters can sometimes be a bit harsh, as long as the shooting sessions were not too long, one could get away with not using proper winter gloves. Then I found a new love for the arctic and high mountainscapes, and suddenly my hands could no long ..read more
