Cancer center for second opinion

What are the best cancer centers for getting a second opinion on treatment plans? We’re located in the west coast, thinking about places such as UCSF, MD Anderson or Mayo Clinic for a virtual consultation. Would appreciate if you share any good experience you had seeking second opinion from one of those cancer centers. submitted by /u/Hopes_125 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

5 days in. Thought I had a hot flash on day 2 but probably just my head messing with me. Tonight we were watching a video on plant-based eating. I was in a neutral-good mood. All of a sudden at one point I felt like crying. It went away after 10 minutes or so, but it got me wondering. Can I “think” myself out of these situations? I don’t want to be a crying fool - especially around my buddies. Work is cool. I can cry at work. I’m the only guy in a department of 15 or so. They would eat that shit up. But I can’t be showing up to the fantasy draft in August, crying like a baby because someone s ..read more

The waiting is killing me

I’m trying to keep it together, but the waiting at each step is honestly the WORST! We are trying to gather information so my husband can make an informed decision and it’s so frustrating that every step adds so much time. We just want to get moving on treatment! We had another set back today because the PSMA scan that was scheduled for Wednesday was pushed back to next week. They are waiting on tracer from Europe. This means we can’t discuss the results with the radiation oncologist at our appointment next Monday like we had planned. Who knows how long it will take to get another appointment ..read more

In October 2022 I had a MRI which indicated I had two lesions. One was a PIRADS 3 and the other was a PIRADS 4 both located on the right side. I went in a couple weeks later and had a MRI/TRUS fusion guided biopsy. 3 samples were taken from each lesion and then there were 10 random samples taken. The results were all benign. My PSA was at 8 and has dropped slightly to 6.7. This month my urologist suggested I get another MRI. I received the results today and now I am really confused. No lesions were noted on the right side but only one very small PIRADS 4 is now noted on the left side. What co ..read more

Hello everyone. My dad beat prostate cancer seven years ago after surgery to remove it (yay!). He has since regularly tested to monitor (PSA?) levels and they were 0.0. Recently, it went up to .25 then to .5 in the span of four weeks, and the doctor says that is a sign of the cancer returning, and in quite a rapid manner as it is in the lymph nodes. My Mom works in a breast cancer field and always plays down any sort of family news/emergency regardless of severity. My dad could have a few months left and she would tell me he'll live to 120, so transparent feedback isn't possible from her. Bas ..read more

Would be incredibly convenient but I don’t see them have a RALP expert on staff. Seems like everyone does a few different areas of specialties. Any experiences anyone would discuss? NYC and Boston are in my orbit. So I have choices. submitted by /u/cduby15 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Been tense and scared all week. For some reason, this seems to have at least temporarily lifted my mood. Note: PIRaD 5 on MRI. That’s what we were checking. It felt good to get some of my old self back. submitted by /u/cduby15 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi all, I want to get some feedback on the biopsy report for my father that came after his robotic surgery for Prostate Cancer. My father is 62 years old and got robotic surgery done on April 6. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in Jan. PSA level was 12.8. He had no symptoms as such but we used to get his PSA levels checked regularly so went with surgery as CA was diagnosed. What is focal Extraprostatic extension? I consulted the doc and asked him whether he did non nerve sparing surgery and he said yes but I am not sure then why positive margin occurred. —— Specimen Type: Received 4 cont ..read more
