Democracy of Style: mazi + zo’s “VOTE” Necklace Makes a Statement
Broke and Beautiful | Fashion
by Lindsay

A little box containing a delicate piece of jewelry seems unassuming, but mazi + zo’s “VOTE” necklace is a secret powerhouse that’s anything but passive. Comprised of recycled .925 sterling silver or recycled 14k gold, the “VOTE” necklace strings together four letters that mean almost as much to us in 2020 than they did in the mid-1960s. Voting has become a hotly debated issue over the last several months due to the grave amount of misinformation, needless doubt, and accessibility issues that are bountiful in this election cycle. Jewelry designer mazi + zo are all in when it comes to promotin ..read more

Derma E Bestsellers: The Top 3 with Vitamin C

Somehow, by the grace of skincare gods from all spiritual backgrounds, after a year-plus of radio silence on B&B, I’m still on one beauty company’s PR list: Derma E. To be honest, there’s no skincare company I’d rather still be in contact with. After all, Derma E and I have a long history of working together and I’ve become a solid fan of their products. Hell, I even got my partner hooked on the Derma E Microdermabrasion Scrub, although we had to have a talk about what “dime sized amount” means because that 2oz jar goes quick when you have man hands digging out face mask-sized portions. Despite actual decades being spent in front of a computer screen, I do the vast majority of my TV and movie consumption through my living room television. Let me tell you, I never imagined I’d ever spend this much time with this TV when I bought it. Sure, I play my fair share of video games and binge-watch a show every now and then, but not like… quarantine-level marathoning or anything. Until now, anyway. Architectural Digest Celebrity Home Tours Nesters, decorators, and Peeping Toms will unite over this incredibly simple-yet-enthralling series of celebrity home tours from Architectural ..read more

I’m surprised that the E, T, S, and Y buttons on my keyboard aren’t totally faded out by now. Visiting Etsy has become almost a daily meditation. As a result, my Favorites list has exploded, and while I wish I could just drop thousands of dollars onto my favorite indie designers and makers, it ain’t happening right now. The best I can do right now is save them for my imaginary future and post them up here and hope that they get admired and/or purchased by my faithful crew of shopping monsters.  As we head into July, we must release the immense pressure building in my Etsy favorites. Straight From the Source: Learning What’s Cool for Back-to-School with Goodwill

Despite being well into my 30s, I never forget that August means back-to-school shopping. In fact, I regularly and enthusiastically encourage grown adults to continue their back-to-school shopping patterns for as long as possible. Keeping yourself in clothes that make you feel good is a priority that frequently gets lost once we leave the expressive world of teen wardrobes, and that’s a real shame. In fact, I think that we should be encouraging ourselves to be *gasp*… more like teens when it comes to expression through fashion. The only difference is that we will have to pay for our own clothe ..read more

DIY Beauty: A Book Full of Dupes for Your Favorite Beauty Products

My feelings about the DIY movement can be summed up in two words: punk rock. That’s the vibe I get when flipping through the pages of DIY Beauty by Ina De Clercq. Well, that’s the short version of this title. The real title couldn’t possibly be that simple: DIY Beauty: Easy, All-Natural Recipes Based on Your Favorites from Lush, Kiehl’s, Burt’s Bees, Bumble and bumble, Laura Mercier, and More! (Amazon, $12.32) (The awkwardly placed lemon on this book cover is hiding a very ugly “REVIEW COPY ONLY” sticker that was placed with industrial adhesive that will never come off.) There are over 400 bo ..read more

Going Clear: Modern Transparent Chairs You Can Actually Afford

Clear, plastic furniture is not a concept that I was immediately warm to. The hyper-modern aesthetic just wasn’t cute to me. It felt contrived, overly ironic, and challenging for my design imagination to work with. It wasn’t until several years after I saw my first Ghost Chair – a now-historical piece of functional art by Phillipe Starcke, and the OG see-through furniture – that I finally understood my problem: I was viewing clear furniture as a theme instead of an accent. You don’t fill an entire room with see-through furniture! They’re for adding some interesting, contrasting vibes to an oth ..read more
