Water damaged bulbs?

About one week ago our bulb stock was flooded by rain (maybe you heard about the Dubai rainstorm). All bulbs were packed but all carton boxes were wet same as the bulbs inside. There is a variety of tungsten and discharge bulbs. So the question is, can I still use them? I heard from someone that ceramic lamp base can retain moisture inside with potential short circuits. Well, I can try to check all of the tungsten, but what to do with discharge? I can't just put it inside a moving head with the risk of the blow. Maybe anyone know links where to find safety info about that? Or manufacturer adv ..read more

Dear Community, I hope you're all doing well! I'm very interested in learning more about the differences between the Vectorworks Professional and Educational versions. Despite my own research, I'm still a bit unsure and would greatly appreciate your kind help in clarifying this matter. My goal is to acquire the professional version in the future, once I have the financial means to do so.Additionally, I'm curious about how Vectorworks compares to SketchUp. I've heard of both, but I'm uncertain which one would be better suited for my needs.Thank you very much in advance for your assistance and ..read more

MA Dot2 Core. Can I use it with a MIDI controller?

I will be doing a small show in a few days and I wanted to know if it is possible to connect an external MIDI controller to the MA Dot2 Core as a wing. I am not that mouch used to the MA platform but from the few hours I had with it I came to the conclusion that I would like to have a few more buttons and faders. The Dot2 has a MIDI IN at the back so I was wondering whether I could connect something like an Arturia beatstep to it and use it fore some triggers during the show. If it is possible how would I go about setting it up? submitted by /u/The_Reason_is_Me [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Can you use a dot2 wing with an ma2 console?

Got an ma2 light for a rather large show coming up and a few extra available tactile faders/executors wouldn't go amiss. The venue has a few dot2 wings lying around and said I'm free to use them. Can you hook up a dot2 wing (an f wing specifically) and use it as an additional ma2 fader/executor bank? Apologies if this is noob, I have almost no familiarity with the dot2 platform submitted by /u/don-corle1 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Seeking macOS PDF Reader Reccommendations

I'm looking for a PDF reader that utilizes similar navigation as Vectorworks. I am so used the the way that the mouse wheel zooms and holding it down momentary toggles dragging. Every time I use a PDF reader to view a plot, its just annoying to have to remember to hold option or scroll the opposite direction or click an icon to switch to pan mode. I would love it if my train of thought could stay uninterrupted while the muscle memory of VW navigates a PDF. Any good options that do this or allow serious customization? I've always used Preview or Acrobat and they're ok, but not ideal. submitte ..read more

I got an Avenger grip clamp to attach to an I-beam above our drop ceiling. Does this receiver use a regular length of speed rail? I need to drop the light down another 3-5 feet. submitted by /u/justcastille [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi all, a choreographer that I'm working with has a very specific request that I'm having a hard time sourcing. She is looking for a light in the shape of a tube that is wireless, DMX-controllable, and flexible. I can find things that are two out of those three, but don't know where to look to find the right unit for her. Does anyone have any ideas? Bonus points for being waterproof. submitted by /u/lawsofrobotics [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How do I know if my lights are distracting?

Processing img 1nc0vdlmunwc1... Demo Video So I'm just learning to design lights for fun for my current church setup. They usually use DMX240 style mixer, and I'm trying to control it using QLC+ and USB-DMX interface so that we have more advanced colors and stuffs. I already try it for quite some time in rehearsal, but not yet with an actual audience, and those technical stuffs are already working fine (made my own fixture profiles too). My question is, how do I know if my lights are distracting? From the video I attached, I played around with them to make flash FX, kinda like blinder fix ..read more

How can FOH tell what the DJ is doing?
Reddit - Lighting Design

Hey folks ? The title of this post might sound quite confusing at first, but let me elaborate. How do the lighting guys in the FOH know all the things like current BPM, next song and when the drop comes (which sometimes is getting quite hard to predict with more modern genres ?)? Do they use some sort of remote screen sharing to see what the DJ is seeing, or are they using some sort of API? Would love to get some insights ? Thanks in advance everyone and have a nice day! submitted by /u/RealJamo [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
