The manga genre is by its nature dazzling. Capturing that visual intensity was the challenge facing Japanese director Takashi Miike in bringing Osamu Tezuka’s manga “Midnight” to the screen. Shooting with an iPhone 15 Pro, Miike used an amazing collection of cinematic techniques to create a 19-minute thriller. In a form of breaking the fourth wall, the director includes images from the original comic. While subtitles translate the spare Japanese dialogue into English, the action speaks for itself.
The editors of MobileMovieMaking have chosen “Midnight” as the Mobile Movie of the Week.
