When I wrote my first article on LinkedIn on May 15, 2014 “By 2025, machines will decide our job”, I didn’t know what impact it was going to have, so I barely wrote any text. I soon discovered that with my wonderful network of contacts I could spread my vision of IoT technology and that it would help me create my personal brand after the unwanted departure from Microsoft. Over time I learned: which articles liked the most, which ones could have more Likes or how to generate more comments and therefore more views, but always trying to maintain my own and unmistakable style. Without a doubt one ..read more

Psychosis in the IoT

After 3 years without going to events due to COVID, I finally decided to go, even if it was only for 1 day, to the IOTSWC23. The day started badly. Iberia played a trick on us. Shortly after leaving Madrid, the captain advised that we were returning to Madrid due to a failure on the plane. For a moment I thought that the stars or the gods had conspired to prevent me from visiting the congress and shelving the internet of things once and for all. Finally they put us on another plane and it only delayed our arrival in Barcelona for a couple of hours. I want to start by explaining the reason for ..read more

After 7 years he was again invited to participate as a speaker at the IoThings World event in Milan. It was in Milan where I gave my first talk about IoT as the founder of OIES Consulting. My presentation, this time virtually, I dedicated to explain the ages of the IoT based on my own experience. I am not going to write the text of my presentation because it will surely the organizer will publish a video, but if I leave you a couple of descriptives slides that I used. I hope these pictures will lead you to review and comment. In recent years I have become more pessimistic about the IoT, but i ..read more

An Internet of Things among friends

Years ago, I took a week-long road trip through California’s wine country. Years later, I started a tradition of disconnection trips during Holy Week through wonderful places in Spain where the wine tasting, the food and the local people forced me to disengage from the IoT, LinkedIn, mail and almost the smartphone. This year it has not been possible. In 2021 I have had to disconnect in Madrid. And obviously it has not been the same. In fact, staying at home this vacation has prompted me to write a new tribute article to talk about what I have called the Internet of Things (IoT) among friends ..read more

X-ray of an IoT salesman

I admire salespeople who sell Internet of Things (IoT) because it’s one thing to write about how to sell IoT:” Welcome to the first “Selling IoT” Master Class!”  and a very different one is to sell IoT: “Finding the IoT Sales Experts of the World”. It has been more than 5 years since the sellers of M2M solutions or telematics solutions, changed their business cards to include in their titles the buzzword: IoT. They thought that it would be a talisman, a plus to sell more and faster. It has not been so. Today many of these salespeople have abandoned this chimera that is to sell IoT. Some h ..read more

O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done, .. the story used by an IoT teacher to inspire his students to become IoT leaders.

Never Say Never Again to the IoT

For 7 years I have been writing about the Internet of Things (IoT). In December 2020, I published my article 100 on LinkedIn: :“2021 IoT Trends and Predictions: I expect an exciting year for IoT“ and decided that it should be my last post about IoT. Why keep writing about a topic that no longer interests most of my followers based on the Likes, Shares and comments received in recent months? The IoT is no longer as cool as other technologies. In addition, there are already thousands of articles and dozens of books written on the subject, so I could end my pioneering IoT outreach activity. Howev ..read more

If in previous years many of the Internet of Things (IoT) predictions have failed, the year 2020 has been no exception. This time justified by the virus outbreak. In my article ” 2020 IoT Trends and Predictions: Be prepared for the IoT Tsunami” I wrote that we should be prepared for the Internet of Things (IoT) tsunami, but it won’t be in 2020″. I didn’t imagine the special circumstances of the year “MMXX”. Today, I do see clearly that Covid-19’s impact is difficult to ignore looking forward into 2021 and beyond. This pandemic is going to accelerate adoption in many industries that have been a ..read more

I am not an expert on Blockchain, but I have written a highly commented article “Is Blockchain the silver bullet needed by the IoT industry?. I am not an expert in Artificial Intelligence either but my article “Will the confluence of IoT and AI redefine the world? was also widely read. For years I defined myself in one of my most popular posts as “A Generalist specialized in Internet of Things (IoT)”. And showing off this profile I have written more than a hundred articles where I have provided information on different aspects related to IoT, covering both technical areas such as Security, Con ..read more

Demystifying IoT Start-ups

I do not want to open a debate with this article about the definition of startup or about when a startup should stop being called that to be nothing more and nothing less than a company. My most radical opinion is that after 3 years it stops being a startup. Although sometimes I am more flexible and add another 5 more years as I explain later. Over the last 20 years I have worked in, spoken with, advised and evaluated dozens of startups. Without going any further, I believed that I was founding a startup with OIES Consulting, although I quickly understood that my business was more about surviv ..read more
