I returned to work from maternity leave two weeks ago, and it feels like I’ve lived 1,000 lifetimes since then! Balancing lawyer work with life as a new mother of four was truly jarring. Thankfully, the work I did to prepare for maternity leave really helped the work side of my work/life equation. I look back at my past self and just want to hug her for the prep work she did—it made my transition back to work a little easier ..read more

It’s not a Happy Black History Month, at least for all. It has always been a happy time for me to celebrate the achievements, triumphs, and contributions of Black Americans and Black culture throughout history. It’s a joyful occasion, an opportunity to reflect with gratitude on the rich cultural heritage that has shaped so much of our society. Yet in recent years, it’s been extremely painful watching a beautiful season of reflection be met with resistance and divisive rhetoric, particularly within the evangelical church.  ..read more

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! I hope today finds you feeling loved and sharing that love with yourself and those around you.
Speaking of love, I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about my relationship with the love of my life, my husband. For those of you who’ve been part of this community for several years, you know I met Joshua while I was in law school. Our relationship quickly blossomed, and we’ve navigated dating, engagement, and now, nearly ten years together, with eight of those years as a married couple ..read more

While attending a conference in Washington, D.C. a few months ago, I met up with a friend for brunch at Tatte Bakery & Cafe‘s City Center location. I ordered the French toast and was absolutely blown away! Tatte’s French toast is housemade Challah bread soaked overnight, and it was topped with this ricotta goat cheese mousse, raspberry jam made in-house, strawberries, mint, and toasted almonds. It was simply sumptuous and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since ..read more

I used to consider myself a very organized person until my family began to grow. First, the laundry started to pile up and was left out, rather than put away. Then, as my practice grew, caring for the home fell from a daily practice to a day-long ordeal on Saturday. Now, with marriage, four children to raise, and a busy professional life, caring for the home is not on my schedule as often as I’d like and I feel overwhelmed ..read more

I’m currently in my fourth postpartum period, with my youngest baby being five months old(!). In planning for this postpartum period, I wanted to ensure I thoughtfully engaged in self-care. After having three babies in four years while working a demanding job, I am adamant about self-care, and if you are expecting or also postpartum, I want you to be adamant about self-care, too. I know all too well how much of a toll it takes on a postpartum mom to work and constantly care for little ones with no time for herself — my mental and physical health were greatly affected ..read more

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?'”
– Martin Luther King, Jr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day — “MLK Day” — is coming up here in the United States. Every third Monday in January, our country has a holiday observing Dr. King’s life of service. MLK Day is a national day of service, coined “A Day On, Not a Day Off,” where Americans are called to volunteer and serve others ..read more

As my life has gotten fuller and busier as a wife, mother, and attorney, I found that the only reading I was doing was for work or occasionally a Christian book. I used to read for pleasure, but that seemed like a far off ideal, a pastime that belonged to a more carefree version of myself. Then, about two years ago, I was asked to read a book for work that was not directly related to the legal field ..read more

Happy New Year, Y’all!
I love this time of year because we all seem to enter into a season to pause, pray to seek God’s direction for 2025 and the years to come, and to reflect on the year(s) before. As I reflect on years past, I can’t help but feel thankful and content that we live in California. This decision to move to California came after much prayer. Are you thinking of making a big move ..read more

Hi, MBG community! You may have noticed that I tend to disappear for months (and sometimes years!) from social media. Sometimes my social media breaks are planned, and other times they happen spontaneously. Whether my breaks are planned or not, the reason why I post sporadically is because I struggle with social media. After wrestling with this struggle for a few years, I wanted to share my hesitancies in case anyone else shares the same reservations ..read more
