The Paper Cup Recovery and Recycling Group (PCRRG) recently held its first members’ meeting of 2021. With representatives from the whole supply chain from converting to recycling, the PCRRG has made enormous progress in driving the collection and recycling of paper cups. Such progress has brought it to the attention of a wider packaging sector, particularly the facility for the public to return used cups to a large number (4 000+) of coffee shops irrespective of where the coffee was purchased. The Westminster Hall debate took place this week in response to the petition calling for a dedicated hospitality Minister. Support for both a Minister and extended support for hospitality was strongly expressed with our Chairman, Mark Pawsey, arguing the need for support for the supply chain. CALL FOR SUPPORT FOR HOSPITALITY SUPPLY CHAIN

Together with a number of trade associations led by the British Frozen Food Federation, the FPA has agreed a joint letter to the Chancellor pleading for support for the foodservice supply chain. The letter calls for the following to be put in place with immediate effect: Extend the 12 month local authority Business Rates Exemption to businesses supplying into the hospitality and foodservice market, using the existing legislative exemption for hardship. RIP ALAN McCAULAY It is with immense sadness that we advise Alan McAulay of Huhtamaki BCP passed away on Sunday 22nd November from an unexpected seizure. Alan was a senior manager running Huhtamaki’s Foodservice FMCG category, having been a part of the BCP management team at the time of the acquisition by Huhtamaki in 2013. Following the announcement yesterday (24 June) that the hospitality sector can reopen from 4 July, the FPA has reissued its ‘Guidance on the Safe Handling of Foodservice Packaging’.
