Am I a bad person for wanting to go ‘no contact’ with my father?

I would like some advice on my dilemma, going no contact with my father. To keep it short, my father cheated on my mother a number of times and left my family when I was 11. We had talked on and off for about 4 years, (with supervision from my mother) but it was mostly him trying to validate his actions, explain why he did the things he did, or talk trash about my mom. I am 20 now, and I just don’t see any benefit to talking to/having a relationship with someone who is essentially a stranger. (He still tries to reach out to me, but it’s very surface level conversations) However, I feel I migh ..read more

What do I do in this situation? This is my fist time speaking out and seeking advice. My family is toxic, there is only my dad and two older brothers. My mother died when i was 13. My eldest brother is a narcissist. My other brother has asperges and is kind and wouldnt hurt a fly. My mother heavily implemented us in religion 'the jehovahs witness'. I am not religious and it didn't grow on me when she passed. When i was 14 my eldest brother had a best friend that would come over and he groomed me behind closed doors. Me being so young and naive I thought it was normal and ok, i lost my mother ..read more

Hi, I am a 18 year old female from Pakistan. As by the title you know where this is going..... I really want to vent.. Some might find this werid but in our culture it is alright and actually favored to marry your cousin and in my family history most couples just married the cousin they felt attracted to the most. Little back ground info, me and my cousin who we'll call him Iblise were never really close bec he is like 10 years older than me and was quite the rudest person ever. He would be the one who make fun of skin colour, height, hair and weight. So I was really never never confident growi ..read more

So, here's the deal: I've been out of high school for three years now, and I've finally decided to dive back into the academic world and pursue criminology this coming fall. The reason for my hiatus? Well, my parents had a baby during my senior year, and suddenly I found myself thrust into the role of caregiver. Fast forward to now, I'm 21, juggling childcare, work, and the whole adulting gig. But hey, with my little sister gearing up for school, I figured it was time to focus on my own education. But, plot twist! Just when I thought I had it all figured out, I found out that my mom's expecti ..read more

I just got off the phone with my grandmother. I love her. She raised me. She's a strong woman. She's also inherently racist and I as an adult am trying to accept this. Growing up I was so close with my family. My cousins and brothers were my best friends. I grew up in the South in a predominantly white town. I was the black sheep. I got used to being made fun of. Mostly because I questioned religion and what I was taught was right or wrong. I asked why alot. I moved not far away and after one of my brothers died quite suddenly I just quit attending most family events. So did my other brothers ..read more

i will say our family is a more "open-minded" family, but i think i saw my dad(51) watching gay porn, im afraid to tell my mom(51) that he was watching gay porn because i dont want them to divorce, i dont think my dad is bisexual but hes never said hes not, never has said anything about liking men either, do i just let this go or so i say something? TL;DR dad might've been watching gay porn, dont know if i should tell mom submitted by /u/the_breadguy [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I was married previously to an abusive narcissistic. Its been 4 months since my divorce and seperated since 1.5 years. It was an arranged marriage. My brother arranged the marriage to my ex and I did not feel like the guy was actually interested in marrying me ( he was still in love with his ex gf, did not show any kind of interest in me) so I told my family about my concerns. My brother told me that since i am worthless I am lucky that I even have a chance to marry him ( my ex). I have extremely low self esteem due to growing up in a broken family and constantly being criticized by my brothe ..read more

I (f19) have to be the “parent” of my (m12) brother due to my mom traveling for work. My mom and grandfather barely do anything to correct his behavior, yet when I try to, my mom says she’s the parent and she’ll handle it. My brother doesn’t even listen when he’s calm and I sit him down to talk, nor when I get angry. He at one point called me a bitch. Literally the whole time when he plays he cusses loudly and sometimes during school breaks he will wake me up. What can I do? I’m starting to become frustrated. submitted by /u/MsLadyLuvr [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
