It is already the last month of 2020, a year that has presented many unique challenges for all of us. In reflection, I have found myself to be rather unproductive and unmotivated during this year. With the year coming to a close, I look back and wish that I had accomplished more than I have. However, I recently came across a quote that I thought I would share, as I believe we could all benefit from hearing it during these times. “Destroy the idea that you have to be constantly working or grinding in order to be successful. Embrace the concept that rest, recovery, and reflection are essential ..read more

The seasons are starting to change, crops are being harvested and cooler temperatures are setting in. This gives rise to layering, heavier textiles and warmer wears. I have said it before and I will say it again, I love dressing for the autumn season. I also love the smell of the dropped leaves, the crunch of them under my feet, and the whole hygge aspect of it all. Here I styled some vintage trousers, which believe it or not, I had sitting in a box of clothing which I wished to consign. Truthfully, when I had bought them secondhand a few years ago, styling them seemed like a task to me. I fou ..read more

You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)

It has almost been a year since I convocated from University and I am just starting to be able to wind down. I am taking some time to learn embroidery, I am trying to read more, and take better care of my health. I have started going to Pilates regularly and I am so proud of myself for that alone. I finally feel like I am starting to come into myself. Now since I have started to spend more time on my feet, my body has started to remind me of how incompetent it is – how lovely. I have been trying to make the best of it by regularly going to my physical therapy and acupuncture appointments. Howe ..read more

Today I am celebrating one of my favourite brands, CHNGE. I love the message on their products and behind their products. They only use organic cotton, and they also ensure that that zero harmful chemicals or pesticides were used on the cotton. They save over 500 gallons of water for every shirt produced and use less energy compared to conventional cotton shirts. They also offset all of the carbon emissions from their production and our use to make the shirts carbon neutral. Don’t even get me started on how much I love the designs and the messages on the clothing. It is a brand I am very comfo ..read more

I have been the lucky recipient of several vintage film cameras in my life (my favourites are my mother’s Ricoh KR-5 Super and my grandmother’s Olympus OM-1). Although I did have my own film camera as a girl, my love for more elaborate vintage cameras has grown. I have been shooting strictly in manual mode for 6 years on my NikonD5300 so that has helped immensely when it comes to using and understanding film cameras. I have grown to love film so much that on my 25th birthday I was visiting my favourite antique shop (Northside Antiques) and I saw a late 1990s Canon Sure Shot Owl Prima AF-8 film ..read more

When I’m not accessorizing my secondhand outfits with vintage jewelry, I accessorize with local or sustainable jewelry instead. Luckily, Alauna Whelan creates both local & sustainable jewelry options and they are beyond beautiful. She gifted me with this stunning necklace and I haven’t taken it off since. Alauna finds her inspiration in nature and has clarified her journey through understanding how connected we are with Mother Nature. She has intertwined natural elements into all that she creates. I am wearing the Security, Earth Necklace. The earth element represents security through gro ..read more

Halloween is my favourite time of the year so I collaborated with Naked Kitty Co. again to make four lip balms! These lip balms are packaged in cardboard, not plastic, and are made from natural ingredients. These lip balms are named after some of my favourite badass women that are our Halloween Heroines 365 days a year (but especially during spooky season). More importantly, 10% of proceeds from the purchases of these lip balms are being donated to the International Women of Saskatoon Non-Profit Organization! These four lip balms consist of different combinations of: Shea butter, B ..read more

I have been a long-time admirer of SheNative and founder, Devon Fiddler. I became aware of this local company several years ago when I got the opportunity to model for them and to interview Devon for a Saskatoon fashion article. Since then, I have proudly watched this company grow and blossom as their goals have been defined and achieved. I had the opportunity to meet with Devon and Tori-Lynn this summer and talk about SheNative, their new store location, and their dreams for the future. SheNative is created by Indigenous women, to instill inner strength and confidence in all women. Their wisd ..read more

Secondhand Cleaning Care

It is officially Secondhand September! Buying items secondhand is more sustainable than buying new. This month I challenge you to try to buy any items you might need secondhand! I have been purchasing secondhand clothing for years now without any issue and I have previously discussed secondhand clothing purchases in detail here. Today I thought I would let you know how I wash my secondhand clothing after I bring it home. It is important to note that just because you are purchasing something secondhand or vintage, doesn’t mean you have to use harsh chemicals to disinfect or sanitize the item. S ..read more
