The surge of cargo thefts -- often by elaborate fraud and identity theft schemes -- plaguing the trucking industry continues to mount.  In the first quarter of 2024, criminal activities impacting the logistics and transportation industry reached new highs, even amidst the sustained crime wave that began in late 2022. A highway worker was killed another injured Thursday, May 9 when they were struck by a tractor-trailer on the New York State Thruway. The New York State Police said in a statement the collision occurred at about 12:26 p.m. in the town of Chili southwest of Rochester..  A preliminary investigation by the troopers revealed a tractor-trailer operated by Thomas J. Key Bridge: Precise small charges to cut steel debris on cargo ship

Workers removing debris from the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore today said they will use what it called "precision cuts made with small charges" to remove a large section of the steel wreckage from on top of the container ship Dali, which caused the collapse of the bridge when it struck a support on March 26. A 41-year-old truck driver was arrested after ramming his tractor-trailer into two police vehicles on Interstate 15 in Utah Sunday, May 5, killing a local officer and fleeing the scene.
