Launch parties are great. So great, that I am only recently beginning to appreciate how fortunate I've been over the last decade and a half to have been part of so many launches! Regardless of how much fun they may be, they can also be a little strange. Not due to some innate weirdness but due to the constraints of getting what a business needs to be done, done. I think a camera launch must be one of the trickiest launches of all. It's probably going to be night, so you can get everyone you need to attended after their day at work. And photographers are a notoriously picky bunch, they li ..read more

The Photographic Print VS Instagram at Disorder Gallery

Yesterday I was able to head down to Disorder Gallery for the Tony Potts gallery talk and discussion on his current (yes, on now) current exhibition, A Moment Of Intimacy, which features classic black and white photographs of women in sensual poses. Let me start again. All of the pictures in the exhibition were shot in the 1980s on film, of course, as that is what we had back then. They are one-on-one personal work by Tony, and as I said to a female friend of mine, 'they are pictures of women from when women were woman and some men knew how to photograph them'. The picture ..read more

Bright Yellow Frames at Station Gallery W/ David Griggs

Lets talk about these bright yellow, asymmetric-block frames filled with strange portraits, of aliens and monsters, or, are they simply some sort of shape-shifting selfies. I mean maybe he is, maybe David Griggs is an Alien. And why not, why wouldn't an Alien be an Artist and let the world know with a wall of Portraits? A rainbow of colourful portraits, during WORLD PRIDE, in Sydney... (I said to David, "I like your selfies" and he did not deny they were not, selfies!). So a perfect time, to OUT oneself as an Alien or maybe even, a Theosophist (lots of good colourist company there). But ..read more

Sydney Climate Rally - Signs and Wonderful People

Scomo must go - Students for Climate Justice - Fund the Firies, Rally and March from Sydney Town Hall.  So many people, a great turn out. So many I missed seeing most of my friends that also attended; but I'm seeing their pictures too on Facebook which is great. It's been terrible here in Australia for months now. I can't complain too much as I am relatively safe in the city, if you don't worry about the toxic air quality. There was such a wide variety of people, of all ages at this rally; it really gives one hope. The police seemed quite decent, though seeing the oft now mentioned black suite ..read more

SIGMA FP Launch & Blade Runner Style - OPT Circular Quay

On monday night I attended the Sigma FP camera launch at a beautiful-view-bar down at Circular Quay. From our third floor position, well it's a tough situation any time, will the view overpower your presentation? So hats off (well so windy earlier I didn't even wear one) to CR Kennedy and Digi Direct for a great Sigma event. Someone had been doing some thinking; we had a burlesque performer of great beauty and.. later in the evening she transformed into a snake charmer too. Or perhaps that's a charmer with a snake, too.. What with all the smoke from the bush fires and such a great city locatio ..read more

A little over a week ago, Wednesday the 20th of November to be precise; I was a guest of the Australian Maritime Museum at the launch, the grand unveiling of their 2020 exhibition program - and it's a cracker! But first, on arrival guests joined small groups to take a short guided tour and learn a little of the history of the permanent collection -  like 'Krait, a former Japanese fishing boat, took three teams of Commandos and their folding canoes to Singapore Harbour..' to devastating effect. Vivienne nautically prepared for the launch of the 2020 program. We were then treated to drinks and so ..read more

Beyond the Light - Chinese Artist He Zige at 541 Art Space

The titles are as lyrical at the paintings and the opening as bold as the colours. He Zige and his undeniably beautiful exhibition of paintings curated by Vivien Jiang has landed and launched at 541 Art Space Sydney in a Gala style opening. One could see the paintings as abstract expressionist vision however it would seem they are an East-West expression of poetic form. If you love John Olsen or Luke Sciberras work you will probably enjoy this show of painterly cross currents. It's on right now at 541artspace until the 9th of July, so be quick Artist He Zige and curator Vivien Jiang“What is l ..read more

Loved this look I spotted last night going from one photography show at Disorder Gallery, on my way to ACP in Foley street. The three of us were caught at the lights which gave me the opportunity to make this shot - unfortunately I had the 'bright' gallery settings still set so this shot was a bit under and umm a longish 1/30th exposure so its a bit soft but we can all see whats going on here. Some creative old school sports wear with sheer top and leather jacket fusion! I styled something equally Street Style myself once, can you spot the theme here? Telling Stories in Pictures all over.. It's now the last week of the 2019 Head On Photography Festival here in Sydney. Thanks to Head On and Fujifilm Australia I have been sponsored with the fabulous X100F to document openings and well; whatever from the festival catches my eye. I've seen quite a few shows. I sat in on about 10 artists talks at the Head On Hub - and I certainly would not have attended quite so many if I had not wanted to document the photographers speaking - and that was a HUGE bonus as it was a really wonderful experience hearing these talented artists talking about their work. Put these talks on your list for nex ..read more
