First course for 2 years Here is the March 2022 Aikido update for the Ki Federation of Great Britain. It was so good to see everyone on our first course in Headquarters, after a two year break. A wonderful feeling, and lots of chat to catch up on. We normally arrange our Spring Seminar over three days, with a Dan grading and a Kyu grading. This year, however, it will be a one day course with a Kyu grading only. This will be held on Saturday, 30th April. There is no Dan grading as members due for Dan Gradings wish to wait until later in the year to take their exam. For those members ..read more

Here is the September 2021 Aikido update for the Ki federation of Great Britain. Sadly, we have to pass on the news that Geoff Whittington has passed away. Geoff was one of our older members and you may remember his attendance at the many courses in the Isleport Dojo. Here we used to practise our Jo and Bokken on the front lawn and drank many happy cups of tea. He was a member since 1982, obtained 6th Dan and taught the Darlington club until a few years ago.  He  was a lovely man with a good sense of humour and attended many of our courses in the Mark headquarters. We appre ..read more

Aikido Training Saved Me

How Aikido Training Saved Me. (a short article by Sensei Aitkenhead) It was a damp wet, dusky September evening in Clarkston, Glasgow. In 1995 I returned to full time education as a mature student and, that evening, was returning home on my motor cycle. I noticed a junction on my left where a car pulled up. It appeared to stop and I assumed the driver had seen me. But no! Just as I passed the junction the car pulled out. I heard the sound of crushing metal, then of rushing air. I flew over the bonnet of the car at 30 miles per hour. Luckily, my instinct was not to put out my arms to break ..read more

Gabriel from the East Kilbride club has written a rather lovely aikido poem. She has sent this in response to our request for articles for the website and social media. Dance of Ki Planets spinning up on high On this world, spin you and I Expressing beauty in technique Practising till our moves are sleek Currents of ki racing through Bouncing back from me to you Tracing circles as we go Focussed power in each throw Joy of movement as we try Down to earth and up to sky Training the mind to remain calm Soothing my fears, this healing balm In moments of danger: do I live or die? July 2021 Aikido Update
Ki Federation of Great Britain

Here is the July 2021 Aikido Update for the Ki Federation. Two weeks ago, the Federation executive committee held a meeting at HQ. We discussed various subjects. But we primarily focussed on how we can all return to full Aikido practice. We feel that is likely that the government will require some protocols to be observed to minimise further covid infections. The committee is currently investigating these scenarios. We want to  minimise the potential burden on our clubs. We will of course let everyone know once we have more information. Even the proposed  government date for return ..read more

Here is the May 2021 Aikido News in the form of a message from Sensei Margaret... Dear Members, The government took the first steps in lifting our coronavirus restrictions last Monday (17th May). We will all be looking forward to the company of our family and friends. To welcoming them into our homes again, and being able to give them a long awaited hug. Gradually, as restrictions are lifted we hope the situation will continue on course for the next steps in June. However, we will have to wait to see how the situation with the new coronavirus variant progresses, and also what the governme ..read more

Further Aikido Course Cancellations
Ki Federation of Great Britain

Unfortunately we have to report further Aikido course cancellations We were hoping to resume classes and courses in November. However, in some areas, coronavirus cases are rising, and more stringent rules are being enforced across the country. Consequently, we feel it is inappropriate to restart our aikido just now. So there will not be any courses in November or December. Of course we will hope for restarting in the New Year, but that will still depend on how things develop. This is frustrating for us all, but we are  a national and international organisation. We have a duty to protect ..read more

More Aikido Course Cancellations
Ki Federation of Great Britain

Sadly, we have to announce more Aikido course cancellations because of the pandemic situation. So, we are cancelling all of the September and October courses. Hopefully, we will be able to restart in November, but that obviously depends on how the the situation changes. This is disruptive and intensely frustrating for all grades. However, try and continue some sort of exercise at home and stay safe. Best wishes to everyone. The post More Aikido Course Cancellations appeared first on Ki Federation of Great Britain ..read more
