Coffee at the Café Grecco near Trevi Fountain in Rome, Italy.  Dear Reader, one of the few, but much appreciated. I am back blogging. I will blog every now and then. But now it will be just for the love of it, to share travel experiences that may help other travelers plan their trips. I will be traveling to Italy again. Currently, Italy is my favourite country to visit on vacation. It will be a family vacation and we are very excited about it. We will be visiting Rome, Siracusa and Taormina (Sicily).  I will write about the planning leading to it and about the experience. This ..read more

Prime Minister Trudeau announced today that Canada is closing its borders to international travelers, except those coming from the United States (at least for now). These days that means, DO NOT TRAVEL if it's not absolutely necessary. Stay home. Do your part ..read more

Campeche City's calle 59 facing the Sea Gate. Photo: ©canadianandworldtourismThe old city of Campeche was founded on October 4th, 1540 in the name of Carlos I, the King of Spain, by the conquistador Francisco de Montejo y León. The city was named San Francisco de Campeche. In the beginning it was just a village, of course, but over time it grew to be a small city. The core of the city went from the sea gate (you can see the gate to this day at the foot of Calle 59) to the earth gate on the other side of the city. Originally, the sea came up to the sea gate, thus the name, but over the centurie ..read more

The Sopa de Lima at the Gamma Hotel in Campeche City. Photo: ©CanadianandWorldTourismOne of my favourite soups is definitely Sopa de Lima from the Yucatan Peninsula (Campeche and Yucatan states). Its basically a chicken soup with tortilla strips (and avocado, tomatoes, garlic, onion and spices). But what gives it its flavour is the LIMA, not to be confused with lime or lemon. Lima is a kind of lemon but with more of a sour sweet flavour. I have yet to find how it's called in English and I have never seen it in any market of supermarket in Canada (or the US for that matter). Safe travels. Chec ..read more
