Hi all, Before I start - I am not an instructional designer, I ended up working in a training team which is part of bigger marketing team, I am a decent UX/UI and data viz person. Now to my question. Are you guys freelancing by making elearning courses? If so, what is the range of how much you ask for a course, what are the conditions and how do you get your gigs? Agency, UpWork? As I said this is fairly new to me but I saw the elearning that my colleagues make or outsource to agencies and I can definitely make that level of content. Which got me wondering if I could turn this into a side hus ..read more

Free authoring tool for pre-existing SCORM course

Hi all, I authored an elearning course two years ago with Articulate. We didn't need to create any further courses and so let the subscription expire. I now need to amend the content of the course so wondered if there are any free editors that I can upload the file to and start editing. I can find plenty of free authoring software providers but they would require me to start over in the course creation. If anyone has recommendations it would be most appreciated submitted by /u/tryout1234567890 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Authoring digital textbooks and elearning courses in the same tool?

Is there an authoring solution that will allow me to create both digital textbooks and elearning courses in the same platform? My experience is that authoring tools either specialize in digital textbook development (Kitaboo, Kotobee, PressBooks) or elearning course development (Articulate, Captivate, and many others). My company needs a solution that will allow us to write long-form, chapter-based, reflowable, interactive textbooks on the one hand but also repurpose a subset of the same content to create derivative modular elearning courses. Does a solution for this exist? submitted by /u/Hi ..read more

I cannot use the cloud (security policy) so was wondering if anyone was using a server based LMS. Even an old iteration would be worth considering but I’d prefer something that’s still supported. submitted by /u/sadler_james [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Best wordpress LMS for internal training?

Hi all, I've been looking into an LMS platform for my healthcare business. I need to recreate our new hire training (currently PPTs) and a few other trainings for my new hires so primary use will be internal. Down the road I may be looking to create some sellable courses to the public but not a priority at the moment. I've looked into Thinkific in the past but haven't felt 100% comfortable with it. Our website is wordpress hosted so I've just recently started looking learnpress, lifterlms, etc. I would like to be able to have a login on my website and send an invite my new hire. I also need t ..read more

Hello, I am currently in the last semester of my master's in instructional design and technology at CSU Fullerton. The last semester requires students to complete a 5 chapter paper and create a 4 module instructional product. Part of the process requires feedback from working instructional designers. If you are willing to provide your valuable feedback on my instructional product, please view my product below, then fill out the Google Form with your feedback. Thank you for your time! Kajabi, thinkific, learnworlds etc: comparison site?

Is there a good website out there that honestly compares these various online course hosting platforms? All I can find are 'comparisons' on the sites of the individual hosts, where magically their own product always comes out on top. I am starting a small ancient-language business and am especially wondering about which functions are included with each product. For example, learnworlds seems much cheaper than Kajabi - but then I guess that's because it offers fewer functionalities? Any advice appreciated (and yes, I am as new to this as I probably sound:-).) submitted by /u/rhododaktylos [vi ..read more

So i've been away from making educational content for some 10 years and now I want to go back to it... I used to use Flash and ActionScript but now looks like it's articulate, so after I checked it out it looks very approachable for my tech lvl, so Im putting my cards on coding like webdev a bit more so I don't have to rely on articulate content. Another thing I noticed is that a lot of instructional designers come from a teaching background, whereas I had digital design and multimedia training. One job I applied and failed asked me to actually write the course content which to me was unexpec ..read more
