By Don Urquhart, Times Chronicle The Osoyoos 2024 budget has now been approved after it received third reading today by Council resulting in a combined tax, water and sewer hike of about 24 per cent over 2023 but down from the original 39 per per cent proposed last fall. Surprisingly the vote on Tuesday (Mar. 26) afternoon was far from unanimous with the budget passing by a margin of 3-2. Concillors Myers Bennett and Jim King both voted against its adoption while Councillors Johnny Cheong, Zach Porturica and Mayor Sue McKortoff voted in favour. Secrest Hill campsite gets kitchen shelter upgrades

By Times Chronicle Staff The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) is continuing upgrades to the Secrest Hill Agricultural Worker’s Campsite (formerly Loose Bay Campground) located at 500 Secrest Hill Road in rural Oliver’s Electoral Area “C”.  This continued work will involve the construction of an open-air kitchen shelter for use by campground guests, the RDOS said.  Construction is expected to begin within the next week, with project completion expected by the end of April 2024. Morning vehicle accident at Road 22 and Hwy. 97

Two vehicles were involved in an accident at the junction of Road 22 and Hwy. 97 between Oliver and Osoyoos this morning  about 7:40 a.m. Fellow motorists stopped to provide aid and one individual was seen lying on the ground beside his vehicle before sitting propped up against the car while waiting for the ambulance to arrive. The RCMP, Oliver Fire Department and BC Ambulance Service all attended the scene. While unconfirmed, it appears a white SUV may have been at the stop sign turning left (south) onto Hwy. 97 and was clipped by a white vehicle travelling northbound on Hwy. 97 ..read more

By Times Chronicle Staff Oliver and Osoyoos will be better protected during flooding and extreme weather emergencies, says Roly Russell, MLA for Boundary-Similkameen following the announcement of provincial climate adaptation funding for local projects. Osoyoos announced its funding from the province last Friday (March 20) which sees a grant for $150,000 to develop a plan to reduce flood damage and to help deal with damage costs.
