The Scottish Fold cat originated from Scotland and was discovered in 1961 by a local shepherd named William Ross. The ancestry of the Scottish Fold cat can be traced back to a barn cat named Susie, an all-white cat with folded ears. Susie was kept as a barn cat in Scotland’s Tayside region. When Susie had kittens, William Ross decided to keep one, a female named Snooks. Later, Snooks was bred with a British Shorthair, which began the development of what is now known as the Scottish Fold. Scottish Folds are a medium-sized compact cat, generally weighing 6-13 pounds. How Do I Know If My Pet Is a Good Weight?
McLean Animal Hospital
by vsadmin

In veterinary medicine, we do not deem a pet healthy based on their weight due to the various breeds that differ in body shape and size. It would be unfair to compare a Boston Terrier to a Cocker Spaniel based on weight as they are similar in size as their body types are completely different. Instead of how we judge if your pet is a healthy size is by a body condition score. It is a score out of nine with one being underweight, nine being overweight and five being ideal. The way a vet determines the score to give your pet is by feeling your pet along the spine, ribs, abdomen and legs to determ ..read more

Cognitive dysfunction is quite prevalent in our senior pets and often goes unnoticed. In dog’s age 11-12 yrs, 28% had at least one of the following clinical signs of cognitive decline. In cats, it is even higher, and 55% had at least one clinical sign. It is one of the most underdiagnosed conditions because people often consider these changes to be due to normal ageing.
