Even for us humans, the thought of having our blood drawn can be a little bit frightening, and it is natural for us to feel the same for our pets. However, routine annual bloodwork is essential in helping our pets live long and healthy lives. As our pets age, there can be internal changes that are happening that will not necessarily be accompanied by any physical symptoms. By having routine bloodwork, it creates a “baseline” for our individual pets for our Veterinarians to compare. Annual bloo ..read more

What is a pyometra? Pyometra is the life-threatening infection of the uterus that generally occurs in middle-aged to older female dogs in the six weeks following heat. It is thus easy during heat for bacteria in the vagina to ascend to the uterus and cause infection. The uterus with pyometra swells dramatically and is filled with pus, bacteria, dead tissue, and toxins. Without treatment, the dog is expected to di ..read more
