More death and suffering for wolves if Secretary Haaland continues to delay

It’s been almost two years since Interior Secretary Deb Haaland expressed her concerns about the gray wolves in Montana. In a heartfelt editorial in USA Today, she wrote, “I am alarmed by recent reports from Montana, where so far this season nearly 20 gray wolves that set foot outside of Yellowstone National Park have been killed.” Unfortunately, the circumstances have not changed. The agency she leads has been unwilling to take action, and the Secretary has issued no further statements. The situation in Idaho and Montana has only worsened while she waits. Our beloved gray wolves are in dire ..read more

What an extraordinary three months! Since joining Endangered Species Coalition in September, I have seen up close the passion and expertise of our staff and the effect that ESC can have on the recovery and restoration of wildlife across the US.  I cannot thank you enough for your support. It is a pivotal time for wildlife. Globally, we have lost nearly 70% of vertebrate animals since 1970, and in the USA, roughly one in five animals is at risk of extinction. That is why the Endangered Species Coalition is working in communities across the US to build a national movement for biodiversity ..read more

Late in 2022, Endangered Species Coalition brought together our member groups to begin working on the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The ESA passed on December 28, 1973 with bi-partisan support and still is celebrated publicly as positive legislation which has saved hundreds of species from the brink of extinction.   Since the beginning of 2023, Endangered Species Coalition and our allies have been showcasing ESA@50 in various creative ways in order to increase visibility and knowledge about the ESA and its accomplishments. The ESA@50 team ..read more

This holiday season, the howl of wolves will return home to the heart of Colorado. When their paws hit the ground, it will mark a transition point in the long road to restore wolves to the state. After years of advocating for the wolves return, Endangered Species Coalition will continue our efforts to ensure that people in Colorado know that peaceful coexistence with wolves is possible. We will ensure that the stories and information shared about wolves are true, so anti-wildlife special interests cannot promote wolves as a threat to advance their policies of wolf killing like they did in ..read more

Wolf News: Colorado on Track for “Paws on the Ground” by December 31st
Endangered Species Coalition Blog

Colorado is moving ahead with gray wolf reintroduction anticipating “paws on the ground” by December 31st 2023. This exciting restoration effort is dependent in large part on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) finalizing a 10(j) rule.  What is 10(j)? It is a section of the Endangered Species Act that allows USFWS to “designate a population of a listed species as experimental if it will be released into suitable natural habitat outside the species’ current range, but within its probable historical range.” This designation allows for management techniques, such as harassment and, i ..read more

Thank President Biden for vetoing congressional attacks on imperiled species and ask him to do more

Congress recently advanced a pair of disastrous measures that could push a bat and bird species past the tipping point to extinction. In an enormous win for these species and the Endangered Species Act, President Biden vetoed them this week! Thank President Biden for vetoing congressional interference in conservation and tell him to do more for wolves and the Endangered Species Act. These bills could have been the death knell for Northern long eared bats and lesser prairie chickens by preventing them from receiving needed Endangered Species Act protections. Northern long-eared bat populations ..read more
