Sound and music play an essential part in building the story in films, be it a Hollywood Blockbuster or your own home videos. Here’s a breakdown of the types of sound used in movies to add to the story. “The sound and music are 50% of the entertainment in a movie” George Lucas George is dead right, sound and music are a huge part of creating a movie, be it a big screen blockbuster or your own home videos, and it’s the reason he hires John Williams to score the music and Ben Burt for sound design in his films. Here’s the Imperial March from Star Wars – I don’t know about you but it gives ..read more

We’re planning for a New Year full of surprises, hopefully the good kind! With our first video editing bookings already flowing in, it’s already looking like a brighter year for Sonic Eye than the one we’re leaving behind. 2020 – Good Riddance! Ok I know we’re all supposed to put a positive spin on everything, and a big grin on our faces – especially on social media – but frankly it was a terrible year. I don’t know about you but I wasn’t really celebrating much this New Year’s Eve. It was such a bad year for so many of us, I didn’t see that much to celebrate, although I did help myself to a ..read more

I took this photo at a Climate March some time ago. The attendees might look a little older than you’re used to – because it was almost ten years ago. It was the first time I’d ever seen the slogan ‘There Is No Planet B’. There Is No Planet B I took this photo at a Climate March I attended on 2 April 2011. It was the first time I’d ever seen the slogan ‘There is no Planet B’. If you’ve seen David Attenborough’s A Life On Our Planet, you’ll know that he ends by saying that ‘we can fix it’. He said the same thing at the end of the Our Planet series and gave links to online resources that t ..read more

To celebrate Halloween 2020 we thought we’d have some fun and make a ‘scarystory’ using free media. Virtually all the video content in our story comes from free sources, including the spooky soundtrack. Read on for the details and have a go at making your own! Happy Halloween! Halloween celebrations are held in many different countries and date back to traditional festivals such as the Celtic Samhain and Mexico’s Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). The word Halloween means ‘the evening before Hallows’ which is All Saints Day in the Christian calendar. In some traditional beliefs, the dead w ..read more

If you haven’t yet seen David Attenborough’s most recent documentary A Life On Our Planet, watch it this weekend. Like all of Sir David’s BBC documentaries, it’s beautifully made, engaging and inspiring, featuring some of the finest wildlife and nature videographers on the planet. Must-See Documentary In terms of a video production benchmark, you can’t really go past a David Attenborough BBC documentary – they are stunning! A Life On Our Planet is no exception, but in this case, even if you are pretty environmentally aware, it is also quite shocking. At the end of the program, David asks if y ..read more

Spanning the end of 2019 and most of 2020,Sonic Eye’s sixth year has been described as the ‘Year from Hell’. There have still been some silver linings, but we’ve had to look very hard to find them. Sonic Eye’s 6th Birthday Each year since starting in 2014, I’ve written a short post on Sonic Eye’s birthday, 3 October, about the year we’ve had. Where do I even begin to describe the year we’ve just been through? The year for Sonic Eye kicked off with catastrophic bushfires across much of the East Coast of Australia. The skies darkened to an ominous orange, the air in Sydney city filled with smok ..read more

In our latest showreel we take to the skies with an aerobatics champion pilot. Strap yourselves in, it’s a pretty wild ride! Our client Ahmet sent us some pretty awesome footage from his flight with a champion aerobatics pilot. You’ll need a strong stomach to watch the full version on our Action Sports page, but stick it out till the end. Ahmet had a neat idea for how he’d like this edited, asking us ‘can you make it look like the plane crashes?’ Without any distant footage of the plane in the air, and using only one internal and one external GoPro angle, we had to get creative. First we used ..read more
