Hi! Just looking for some input here.
I got an interview at a consulting firm through a friend last fall. I interviewed with one of the managers and things went well, he said he was going to speak with the environmental head and schedule a second interview before thanksgiving. Fast forward a week he tells me that they don’t have much need for help because it’s the slow season but to reach out in the spring if I’m still looking for work.
I reached out a few weeks ago and he set up an interview with the person In charge of habitat assessment and ecological projects. I had that interview today a ..read more

Hi! I am an undergraduate student that studies Integrative Biology (which at my university is everything that isn't human biology or mcb or etc, so we are zoology, ecology, and organismic evolutionary biology) all mixed together. I want to get a PhD in either zoology or ecology, but what I want to study in the long run is how animal behavior is changing because of climate change, biodiversity, and conservation.
I switched into my concentration late and have been catching up on requirements and feel behind on my peers haha. so I mass applied to really cool internships and I got two internships ..read more

Hi, just wondering if anyone here can point me in the right direction for a maths investigation im doing (year 12). Its about investigating real life contexts in which finding the area under or between curves is pertinent.
Currently im aiming for a more environmental approach in where this maths is used, however im not having any luck finding much. Please let me know if there are any specific papers or areas of study that utitlise this type of maths.
The two related syllabus points are: -calculate the area under a curve. -calculate the area between curves determined by functions of the form y ..read more

I'm taking an ecology class, and need to do an oral presentation. I know all sorts of things that I could do, from stream ecology of macro invertebrates to how forest fires benefit the environment, to how less sea ice does (insert something, there are a lot of things).
The problem is that I don't want to do something that would be boring. I want to do something that would peak everyone's interest. Something insane like the rate at which mountain goats take lethal falls or how nuclear war would benefit the environment. (idk, just some insane stuff that would stand out. There's like 40 people ..read more

Hey guys
So I'm having a field trip, and I need a birds' ecology project, that can be done in 3 or 4 days. The area is not that big, so it can't be phylogenetic diversity or functional, since the distance in the points is not significant. Could you help me please?
The area has 823 acres (image). The area is more or less homogeneus, since there are some zones destinated to experiments with agriculture and goat farming. At east the area finishes in a seasonal river (it will have water when we visit).
Also, can't be projects related to presence/absence. It has to include some relation with s ..read more

Or is it only the work do you while you’re getting your PhD? Also, they care who you worked with or is that just a benefit for you (obviously if they know your PI it’s helpful but outside of professional connections, does it matter reputation wise)
