In the first part of my deck makeover I demoed the railings, the lattice, and the staircase, then refinished the deck boards and built an enclosure for the bottom of the deck. Once all of that was done it was time to really turn this deck into the backyard oasis I had alwasy dreamed of. In this half of the project I’ll be adding a privacy wall and building a railing to match the modern look of the bottom of the deck. We'll finish it off by adding furniture and styling the space for entertaining.

If you live somewhere like me and it’s been winter for as long as you can remember I have great news for you. Spring is around the corner! Daylight Savings starts this weekend and the sun is really trying it’s best to warm things up. So what better way to mark the first signs of spring than with some outdoor projects? This privacy wall I built on my deck is still one of my favorite parts of my outdoor space and I get so many questions about it so I figured it deserved it’s own blog. Here’s how I did it!

My brother bought a house! As you know we’ve been working on re-doing my brother’s first home and I got to surprise him yet again with this living room makeover. We’re actually completely re-doing the downstairs portion of his house down to the studs, so while that’s happening we’re freshening up the upstairs space to make it livable through the renovations. For this project we’re not spending a ton of time or money since eventually the plan is for their main living space to be downstairs, and you’ll have to stay tuned to see how it all shakes out. So here’s how we did this space, let’s get st ..read more

I am so excited for this van build. Last week I shared the demo portion of the project and now it’s time to officially start work on building this van out into the luxury tiny home of my dreams. Before I can get started on the interior and all of the design elements I’m excited about, I have to get the exterior situated. We’re talking a roof rack for solar panels, climate control, and a fan that will live on top of the van, and we're also adding window flares in the back. I am so ready to get this build going, let’s get started friends.

As if one home wasn’t enough, I’ve decided to renovate a tiny home– on wheels! Yes you read that right, I’m turning a cargo van into a luxury apartment; complete with a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, garage, and a kitchen/hangout spot. This is no small task and although it is a small space…only 64 square feet, I’ve only got 5 months to get it all done. Why such a rush? My other half is competing in the National Championships for cycling and this will be our ride and our home while he competes. This race is halfway across the country so we’re prioritizing comfort and of course bike storage. Here’s ..read more

It might sound a little dramatic, but truly you don’t need a table saw. Don’t get me wrong, I get a ton of use out of mine and I really love it. But there was a long time before I got this saw that I had to find other ways to break down materials. The table saw can also be a really intimidating tool and if you don’t feel ready to use a one there are other options out there for you. So don’t let anyone tell you that you have to have a table saw to DIY, I’m going to show you a handful of other tools you can use in place of a table saw and a few of the projects I completed using them. Let’s get s ..read more

Who doesn’t love starting off the new year with an organizational project? As you know we have a house with the theme of tiny closets, and we don’t have a pantry at all. So when I redid the basement I made sure to build out a small closet for storage. But everything that needed to be stored in there was all over the place and it was time to get it organized, so in true “weekend project” fashion we crushed this build in 2 days and kept it budget friendly. Here's how we did it!

If you’ve been following along lately you’ll remember that my brother recently bought his first house. We surprised him with a bedroom makeover while he was out of town and it was definitely the best surprise we've had on the channel. You can see his reaction both on the blog and in the video. But now that the bedroom is done I wanted to help give them a dining room space that’s cozy and perfect for entertaining. This time, I made my brother part of the project too. It’s always good to teach the little bro a few things from his big sis! Enjoy this transformation, there truly is no space too sm ..read more

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always thought that secret doors were the coolest and I’ve always wanted one in my house. I just didn’t have a place to put it, or a need for one. That is, until I finished renovating my basement last year and I was left with a random closet door that hid a bunch of my sprinkler valves. This made it a prime candidate for becoming a secret door. It turned out to actually be a pretty simple project, here’s how I did it!
