Has anyone noticed an aversion to any names so much as a foot off the beaten path in this sub?

Let me preface by saying I’m a little biased: I was a female Quinn born in 2002 (years before it was cool), but I’ve grown to love it over the years and would never change it. However unconventional it still is by some people’s standards, it just suits me and it’s never posed a problem in any kind of situation. So, as a girl Quinn, it seems a bit like this sub just has a lot of fuddy-duddies lurking around. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it before, but I just saw the post where someone was asking what everyone thought of Stevie for a girl and I saw more than one comment that said: “I don’t ..read more

My partner and I like the names Celia or Valerie for a girl and maybe Evan for a boy. But I worry our kid won't "look like" any of those names so I was wondering what other people might think. Please give me boy and girl names based off the possible appearances of my future kids using these prediction pictures https://imgur.com/a/GZDo8fF thank you for your input in advance?? submitted by /u/Crafty-Ad-8226 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

What is your experience with changing your name after the age of 25?

I am 30 (f) and in the middle of a career. I have never liked my first or last name. My first name is Mary-Thérèse. It sounds very posh and Christian, both of which I am absolutely not. My father is from the Netherlands, and our Dutch last name is hard to pronounce even for Dutch speakers. I live and work in an English speaking country and no one has even spelled or pronounced it correctly. My first name I’d like to change to May. These three letters are in my current long first name. Aside from that I’m thinking of taking on my mothers last name, which is simple and classic. The name feels r ..read more

Getting married and need help picking a new last name

Both my partner and I come from broken homes where our fathers abandoned the family. Both likely cheated- My (34F) father is a confirmed cheater and fiance (34M) father never got caught or admitted but was the manager of his now wife so they worked together... I always wanted to change my name - my soon to be husband never really thought bout it until I pitched it a few months ago. This past week we had a falling out with his father's side- TLDR: They said one of his half-siblings was "bringing a +1" no name or explanation and we were like "NO" and they (Step mother and +1 bringing half-sibli ..read more

Unique/“Medieval” Baby Names?

This is mostly just for fun right now as I’m only ~8 weeks along, but I’m up late spitballing some names & wanted to see if anyone has ideas. I lean towards more unique, “medieval”-sounding names (I say because I drew from Arthurian legends for a handful of the ones on my list). Ideally looking for a gender-neutral name but it doesn’t have to be. The list so far… GIRLS - Gwyneth/Guinevere (nn Gwyn/Gwen or Winnie) - Elyse (nn Ellie) - Evaine (nn Evie or Vai) *My mind is currently plagued by this one, I love it. - Aveline (nn Avie) - Evalie (nn Eva) - Vivaine (nn Viv) - Lynette (nn Nettie o ..read more

Narrowed down the list of baby names but stuck for middle names to go with them. I like nature themed names but they seem to be in short supply for boys and difficult to make work with these first names. Any suggestions are welcome. Also do you prefer Milo or Luca? submitted by /u/pinkavocadoreptiles [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I need C names! Planning to change my name.

I already have a C name but it just holds a lot of bad feelings for me. I’m changing my name legally in the summer. I don’t want a basic name. Preferably not an English names and Feminine. I’d be so grateful if you could give me some creative suggestions. I like the name Ciela - but it’s not very common - I wish ciel could be used as a name. I like Celestina but it sounds made up. Celeste is nice but isn’t feminine enough for me. I like Celina, but too common. I’m open to other letters like S and so on. submitted by /u/Radio3200 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
