Are these rings recyclable?

The rings holding the 6-pack together used to be a semi-transluscent white plastic, but these new ones are a light brown material with a different density. Are they recyclable or has the Doctor switched to compostable, being the environmentally-minded man of science that he is? Fun fact: There are two pull-tabs on some 6-packs designed to make separating the bottles easier. submitted by /u/AutoGen_Name [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Recycled plastic construction materials and microplastics

There are a lot of companies now repurposing plastic bags etc for the production of durable plastic construction material (wood alternatives). Does anyone know about the production of microplastics during normal weathering of these materials? I live in a place with a good amount of rain snow and ice and I’m curious if I made a porch with these if I’d be putting a ton of microplastics out there over its lifetime. submitted by /u/didyouaccountfordust [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hello! I am looking to start a recycling project that uses cork. The ideal senario is to reuse wine corks, but I want to grind up the cork into small little pieces to make shapes with it. Anyone knows how to bind the small pieces together to create shapes? submitted by /u/turningaunty [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

TIL Black Plastic Not Recyclable

I had bags of properly washed black plastic food and takeout containers waiting for me to find a place to recycle them. Today I got around to a little digging on the topic and discovered that black plastic, such as my take out bowls, are not recyclable. Disappointed. So, stores and restaurants! Please use something other than black plastic. Anybody got suggestions on how to avoid this junk? submitted by /u/hereitcomesagin [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
