When it came time for Scoliosis 3DC patient, Claire Marshall, to choose a topic for her Girl Scout Gold Star Award, she knew she wanted to create videos to raise awareness for scoliosis and share what she had learned on her personal journey with the condition. Claire came to Boston from southern California for our Schroth Method program and Cheneau 3D scoliosis brace in November 2016. She was 14-years-old and nearly at bone maturity. A couple of years later, Claire, had been compliant with her brace wear and doing well. She’d seen Dr. Marc regularly when he visited California to check-in ..read more

A Cause of Scoliosis in Adolescents: The Sagittal Plane
SCOLIOSIS 3DC℠

Sagittal Plane X-Ray Here at Scoliosis 3DC (3DC stands for three-dimensional correction), successful conservative management of scoliosis includes exercises for the sagittal plane. From the onset, our program has integrated sagittal plane exercises on the basis that sagittal plane instability may be a cause of scoliosis. Our sagittal plane exercises are used so that patients can learn to modify postures to work toward halted curve progression, or optimally, to achieve some degree of scoliosis correction. To this end, some recent research out of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia caught our ..read more

What Older Adults Need to Know About Degenerative Scoliosis
SCOLIOSIS 3DC℠
by Kathy Moramarco
3y ago
Degenerative scoliosis happens when seniors experience deterioration in their spine leading it to develop a scoliosis curve. This usually occurs after the age of 40, and is sometimes related to other conditions such as osteoporosis and arthritis. The combination of these factors leads to the spine losing its ability to maintain a normal shape and begins to sag. As the condition progresses, a scoliotic curve slowly develops. In our article ‘Scoliosis Treatment for Adults’, we found that many adults have taken a proactive approach in not letting the condition be a hindrance to their da ..read more

What is idiopathic scoliosis? Idiopathic scoliosis (IS) is a complex 3-dimensional condition of the spine and trunk. Although many consider scoliosis to be a single spinal curve, the 3-dimensionality means that not only does the spine bend laterally but also rotates/twists in the transverse plane and may be flattened when viewed from the side. Patients with idiopathic scoliosis often present with trunk asymmetries, unlevel shoulders, and rib and/or lumbar prominences. These are most noticeable in the forward bending position (see photo). As the body tries to remain upright compensatory curves ..read more

Yoga and scoliosis – should scoliosis patients do yoga? Over the years, yoga has been branded as a methodology and popular trend for scoliosis management and treatment. Today, yoga and scoliosis are commonly and positively associated with each other.  At first glance it would make sense that stretching and strengthening could have a positive impact on the spine, especially with a yoga instructor that has in-depth knowledge of anatomy. It is important to remember that yoga as it is practiced today, was developed about 100 years ago (influenced by British colonies in India and Swedish gymn ..read more
