Drum Solo Remaster from Shades Night Club performing with Lazy Eye.
Heard this gem in my IPOD rotation from the Lazy Eye days at Shades Nightclub in the nineties and thought I would try to make it less muffled. The re-hash turned out pretty decent considering it a single feed out or the sound board.
I was able to reduce the muffling with Reaper to enhance the highs with the EQ and add some compression to even out the levels.
The cool part about this solo back then was Roger gave me two minutes. It was unscripted and all impromptu on the spot. It came out to be right at 2 minutes long and segue ..read more

Going to give the Kelly SHU™ Composite Series Drum Microphone Shock-mounts I purchased a while back a run to eliminate the mic stands out in front of the bass drum and clean up the look of the kit.
The actual installation of the Kelly Shu’s went fairly smooth. I like to have the microphone closer to the batter head to get some of the attack of the beater hitting the head. The mount let me adjust the microphones perfectly.
Installation on both bass drums took about two hours with heads and hoop removal, removing and replacing screws for the rubberized mounting system and installing the ..read more

Thank you to Clark Kirkwood, owner of Clark’s Music Center in Jacksonville, Florida for helping me re-skin and tune the DWs yesterday ….
Clark is a long time friend from junior high school and fellow drummer. He has a knack for getting kits sounding wonderful with his tuning and maintenance skills and recommending the best products for the job. For this project I used the EVANS EC2S Frosted Drumheads from his store.
Evans EC2S Frosted series contains two plies of 7mil film for optimized attack, tone, length of sustain, and ease of tuning for each size head. This drumhead features Sound ..read more

Some time ago, my buddy Anders Qvicker challenged me to share the 10 most memorable albums that influenced my drumming. There are quite a few so I am focusing on the ones that I would listen to, study and play along with as I am learning. These really aren’t in any order at all and here it goes….

Yes’s 90125 is definitely one I spent many hours analyzing and recreating drum parts to in the early days. I loved Yes from an early age which would have been in the mid 80s, a bit after the progressive sounds they offered from the 70s. It is definitely one of the first albums that has infl ..read more

My wife and I are expecting……. no, not that ha….
After contacting Varus drums to request some information on their beautiful kits I stumbled upon online, I received a very nice note from the Owner Thomas Mantovani. They are based in Bolonia (Italy) and offer unique custom drums built to order.
After I started following them on FaceButt, I noticed a very cool snare drum that intrigued me. Mainly for the artwork of the trees and birds against the wood grain. But also because it is a super thick stave design hand built to order. My DW Snare is a thinner shell design and I wanted to ad ..read more

Hello old friends, it has been a while. 2020 has really derailed a lot of people’s lives and truly hope you are doing well.
Much of this year has been spent adjusting to this “new normal crap” and keeping the family web business running. During that time I have really had time to explore more progressive music and I seem to get more work done when I have music playing.
I have listened to Haken before but never really spent much time absorbing all of their tracks. The more I have listened, the more I am super impressed with the drummer Ray Hearne. He is essentially a man after my own heart so t ..read more

When I started this drum blog and platform to share my various thoughts and experiences with the drum set I frankly thought the site would sit in the bowels of the internet where the musings of cat videos and lost social memes dwell.
To my utter surprise, rngeer.com has been ranked as one of the Top 50 Drum Websites And Blogs For Drummers by Feedspot. Feedspot? What is it?
Feedspot is a Modern RSS Reader. If you’re trying to keep up with news and content on multiple web sites, you’re faced with the never ending task of visiting those sites to check for new content. Feedspot allows you to put ..read more

I had a great time last week attending Joseph Kirkwood’s free drum tuning clinic at his family’s store Clark’s Music Center. Tuning the drums isn’t my most favorite thing to do but is obviously necessary for an awesome sound in a home recording studio or any drumming situation for that matter. He did a great job of demonstrating tuning techniques for bass drums, snare drums and toms.
I even learned something new regarding an alternative tuning technique called that you can view here. It gives you great control over your drum sound and also acts like a dampener with the lower lug de-tuning so t ..read more
