Hello all! So I am scheduled to graduate next year with a Bachelors in accounting and will be taking my CPA exam right after graduation. I chose accounting a few years back as I love math and numbers. I have been doing pretty well in school and am loving what I am learning so far. My question is if it is even possible for me to start in accounting at the age of 31 with no experience? I did 4 years in the military from 20-24 and have done manual labor (currently getting $19.50/hour) ever since. What are some pointers to starting in this field? Thank you so much submitted by /u/LordOfTheHam [v ..read more

I’m currently doing a financial analysis project of Chipotle, I was just wondering under new IFRS standards, do their operating leases liabilities are considered debt. I mean if not so wouldn’t this make them a fully equity financed company submitted by /u/TheGayPriest [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I’m 22 years old and I just started my current job a month ago as a Financial Counselor. I don’t wanna move up in this company I just used it to get my foot in the door with working in Finance. I figured I needed some experience because I have a Bachelor’s in Kinesiology and in school for my MBA in Accounting. I have my current position on my resume and continued to apply for accounting jobs and I received a call back today. An entry level accountant position making 50-60k a year. I am hesitant to pursue it because I just started my current job, but I feel like having that experience as an Ac ..read more

How to get accounting/Tax entry level job in Toronto!

To be honest, I am kinda of lost right now. I have been looking for a full-time accounting/tax position in Toronto since September 2023, and despite my efforts (many coffee chats with the recruiters and partners), I haven't secured a single in-person interview. I interned in audit at a small firm last summer, where I performed well enough to receive a return offer. I decided to pass on the offer, aiming for a taste at the Big 4 instead—a decision I'm starting to question in hindsight. And I just graduated from the school and officially jobless. From what I've heard through friends at both big ..read more

My controller has never taken more than 2 weeks off in 12 years

I’m in industry for a family company and was given a “promotion” but in lieu of a raise I got a week more vacation. For my controller to sway me she negotiated that I could take a 2 week vacation a year into the position which I agreed but she surprisingly said that even in 12 years she’s never taken 2 weeks. On top of that my predecessor also boasts of how lucky I am to be able to get those two weeks off and when I questioned if that was standard or not she said no not at all across all employers. Are you not entitled to your vacation how you want to use them? Sure 2-3 weeks during busy seas ..read more

What do you put on your timesheet when you have no work to do?

Currently sitting here at the end of the day after doing like 3 hours of work total and I don’t know what to put on my timesheet. The thing is I actually have a lot to do but I’m waiting for my manager to review several projects before I can move on and am waiting on clients for all my other projects. I asked for work to do in the meantime but no one has anything. We are only allowed to have 30 minutes unbillable per day so I don’t even know what to put on my timesheet lol. Gotta love public accounting when you can’t even enjoy the downtime at work… submitted by /u/LiteratureGlass8859 [visit ..read more
