Its safe to say we think we have had enough rain this month and the temperature has been definitely a little on the chilly side! Although when the sun does shine, the crisp cold mornings are much better than the constant soaking of rain every time you step out of the barn.
We have had some good winners this month with the first being Polar Princess winning on Valentines Day at Newcastle with Hollie Doyle on board, well deserved following her 2 previous close 2nds. On the 16th we had the very talented Special Rate up at Kelso with Ross Chapman in the saddle to add a 7th win to his tally – makin ..read more

Today our runners are Bateau Bay & Achnamara running up at Newcastle. Bateau Bay ran much better last time out and ran on well at the finish, up in trip to 2 miles today for her owners The First To Third Generation in the Apprentice H’cap with Laura Coughlan on board. Achnamara is looking to go one better today following his 2nd in his last run at Musselburgh for owners The RedHotGardogs with Andrew Mullen on board.
Thoughts are with Graham & Family…
We are so devastated by the sad news of Graham’s bad spinal injury jumping out of the stalls at Newcastle and can’t begin to imagine wha ..read more

Special Rate kicked off his season on Thursday how he ended his last! Ridden by Ross Chapman to take it up at the 12th for a smooth win by 14 lengths, we just hope the handicapper was looking the other way!!! A VERY impressive win to make it a total of 4 in a row for this lovely horse. It looks like he is on track for another good season ahead, huge well done to owner Rebecca Holmes and all involved.
Special Rate led up by Tally for her first day at the races with us – a winning one too…….plus a best turned out prize x2 for both runners, not a bad days racing!!!!
We have just had Peripetei ..read more

Todays Runners at Sedgefield
We cant quite believe it is October and there is even talk of Christmas already! October means weaning for our foals and all went well with them coming into the loose barn and the mares going up the road to our 2nd yard Bushypark. They usually take it well as being loose in the barn with each other for company it doesn’t take them long to forget about mummy while they are in the lovely dry barn full of a deep straw bed with plenty of feed on offer!

Well it certainly is past having any ‘firm’ in the going description with all the rain we have had of late. The summer felt quite brief looking back but at least we had our coats off for a while and we now have the NH winter season just around the corner to look forwards to.
Here’s a look back to the summer with our mares and foals living their best life….
The pick of our latest runners over the past few days would be the improving 2yr old filly Lady Bouquet who ran at Musselburgh on Sunday for a close 3rd, taking on colts too. Heading in the right direction for finding the winners spot soon ..read more

Todays runner is Willing To Please, known as ‘Wendy’ in the yard. She runs at Beverly in the 3.45 H’cap with P J McDonald onboard for owners RedHotGardDogs , Alan & David Fairhurst. There’s 12 runners and she hasn’t a bad draw in no.4 so we will have our fingers crossed for her to get her nose out in front once again as she hit some good form this time last summer.
We have been lucky to welcome a good few new horses joining us over the past few weeks, one being Tidewell, a 4yr old gelding by Sixties Icon, seen below enjoying his freedom to the full out in the paddock!
Some other faces yo ..read more

It literally rained here ALL day yesterday and the team did a great job of getting them all out and exercised despite the grim conditions. Soaked through to the unmentionables! They were rewarded with chips, gravy & curry sauce for their effort by Phil which was very gratefully received. Its a great gift to be able to work whilst doing something you love such as riding racehorses, but its not all sunshine and glory somedays, the weather can be very unforgiving…..even in August!!!!

Its a busy day today as the last bits of tidying up are done ahead of our first PKR CLUB Open Day of the summer tomorrow. The place is looking blooming lovely with all the flowers around that are looked after by club members Chris & Christine Duke who do a top job keeping them all alive!!!
Its fantastic to see the many messages already posted on the PKR CLUB Facebook page about how much some of you are looking forwards to your visit, we hope we don’t disappoint and the weather holds up, although you shouldn’t come to Yorkshire without being ready for a spot of rain! Here is Pippa’s latest ..read more
