What Drives Us At Deaf Child Hope – Taking A Moment to Reflect
Deaf Child Hope

Most people have found a worthwhile cause they are passionate about and invest their time and energy towards that cause. We don’t all have the same passions and therefore can’t all commit to the same cause and that’s exactly how God intended it to be. Has God ever told you so firmly though that you have to take action? Maybe you were already involved but that conviction became undeniable and you had to start moving your life around, making scary changes, sacrificing even, in order to follow God’s calling? Many of us here at Deaf Child Hope have a similar experience to that. Matthew 25:40 is no ..read more

Did You Ever Wonder Why? DCH Logo Explained
Deaf Child Hope

A logo is a powerful symbol for any organization. With one glance the heart behind your business, and in this case our ministry, is explained and often without even using words. With our new merch line launched in December we spent a lot of time in reflection of our logo and what it means to us. The popular image for many of the DCH merch apparel items became known as the half logo (as shown below). You may already have an understanding of the hand shape in the half logo. It is the ASL (and one of the only universal signs that is recognized globally) sign for “I Love You.” The pinky stand alo ..read more

Bringing HOPE In Memory of Marisol for Giving Tuesday
Deaf Child Hope

Over the years you may have heard the name Marisol. Marisol was a little girl who was growing up in Mexico and attending a special and wonderful school for deaf children, one of Deaf Child Hope’s partner locations. Marisol died very young of kidney complications. Her death was preventable and if she had been born in the United States, less than 10 miles north of where she lived, she likely wouldn’t have died. But the reality is that her family did not have access to the resources and medical care needed to save her. The school helped fundraise and there were plans to get her the surgery she ne ..read more

Providing Hope to Deaf Children with A Big Heart And A Whole Lot of Commitment
Deaf Child Hope

Karen George lives in California and has been a deaf child sponsor with Deaf Child Hope for almost two years now. She isn’t the first sponsor and she won’t be the last but to date, she holds the record for the most deaf child sponsorships at one time. At 14 sponsorships currently, we just want to send a huge shout out to Karen! When asked “why?” this was her response. “I ‘do what I do’ because I love kids and want to help them as much as I can – the LORD said we’re to help widows & orphans…most of my deaf sponsored kids aren’t orphans, but I like to think the LORD approves.” While it’s tr ..read more

Marisol’s Death Sparks Hope for Other Sick Deaf Children
Deaf Child Hope

Marisol was a sweet 10-year-old little girl who lived in Mexico, right across the Texas-Mexico border. Marisol was deaf plus, which means that along with her deafness, she had other special differences. Being deaf in Mexico isn’t the same as being deaf in the United States, especially when you are born into poverty. Being sick isn’t the same either. And Marisol was very sick. She passed away at 10 years old in 2016 from kidney failure. If she had been born only 5 miles north across the border in Texas, she would have received an important surgery she needed at birth. Instead she got sicker thr ..read more

Did you know we have Five Deaf Child Hope Mission Trips scheduled for 2023?! To get you excited here are some of our favorite photos from past trips.   2013 Jamaica In the first picture, 3-year-old Jamie sits on his sponsor’s back while he looks like he’s doing push-ups! His sponsors visited him in Jamaica shortly after they started their sponsorship.  They still sponsor him to this day, 10 years later. Look at how much Jamie has grown! The second picture is a current picture of Jamie taken this past fall when DCH went to Jamaica on a missions trip.       ..read more

Kids Sponsoring Kids – A Christmas Blessing
Deaf Child Hope

It is easy to fall into a rhythm and continue to do things the way we’ve always done them. Celebrating Christmas is no exception. There’s the shopping and the food, maybe traveling to see family is part of your rhythm. Well we met a family recently who is changing it up and doing something new. Something they’ve never done as part of their Christmas celebrations before, and it’s going to change a life. Wow! If that’s not a Christmas miracle then I am not sure what is! The Burgess Family sat down together and chose a deaf child to sponsor for Christmas. The Burgess children are ages 6, 5 and 1 ..read more

DCH Team Returns From Jamaica
Deaf Child Hope

In early October a Deaf Child Hope team went to Jamaica on a week-long mission trip. While we have one partner in Jamaica, they have three school campuses and a Deaf Village. The team primarily lived, ate, and socialized at one campus that was located inland in the mountain regions of Jamaica. They also got to partake in day trips to visit the other three and every experience was eye-opening and heart-touching.  The school campus at which the team spent most of their time, also serves as a part-time home to most of its students. The school is residential and is set up to take care of the ..read more

We Appreciate All the Teachers of Deaf Children in Poverty!
Deaf Child Hope

As schools all over are starting up again this month, we here at Deaf Child Hope, want to do a SHOUT OUT to the teachers of deaf children in poverty. Oftentimes the struggles and sacrifices made are unnoticed. Too often the emotional toll leaves its mark. The work is never-ending. It isn’t a job that you leave behind at 5 O’clock. What it is, is imperative, meaningful, and revered. Your presence is life changing When you are a teacher of a deaf child, especially one who lives in impoverished circumstances, your presence is life-changing for that child.  Without you, the world is a s ..read more

A Mother’s Story
Deaf Child Hope

This past March, three Deaf Child Hope staff members traveled to Honduras to spend time at two of our partners there. During that trip, a few parent interviews were conducted using a translator. As you can imagine, finding out your child cannot hear is very difficult news to receive when you know little about Deafness. What makes it harder is when there are no resources to help you navigate. Many parents of deaf children in developing countries don’t have a doctor nearby to give them a definite diagnosis. They have to travel great distances to seek help and with little to no money to do so. N ..read more
