The Cincinnati offense finally put a few runs on the board, rallying in the 7th with a 3-run inning to tie the game up, but the bullpen couldn’t hold onto the tie for more than a few minutes as Arizona scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 8th and held on for the sweep. The loss was the Reds 8th in a row and dropped them to 16-21 on the year. Welcome to the Thursday matinee getaway. The Reds close out this current so far winless homestand (0-5) with the series final versus the defending NL Champion Diamondbacks. Overall,  the Reds have lost 7 straight games and 10 of their last dozen games to fall 16-19 0n the season. Hopefully the Reds can post a win this afternoon before they fly west to San Francisco to begin a 10 game road trip which also includes stops in Arizona and Los Angeles (vs Dodgers).  The better news is that following this trip the Reds are finished with road games versus the NL West except for a 3 game set ..read more

The Cincinnati Reds have traded left-handed pitcher Tyler Gilbert to the Philadelphia Phillies. It wasn’t really a trade, though – at least not in the traditional sense. Philadelphia is sending the Reds an undisclosed amount of cash to buy his contract. In baseball that’s considered a trade for some reason. Following the 2023 season, Tyler Gilbert was outrighted and cleared waivers while in the Diamondbacks organization. He elected to become a free agent in November and in January the lefty signed a minor league deal with the Reds that included an invite to big league spring training. Spring t ..read more

The Cincinnati Reds signed Mike Ford to a big league contract earlier today, but hasn’t made it official yet. The roster move and or moves that were coming along with that were unknown, but we’re seeing how it’s playing out now as the Reds just announced the deal along with the placement of Christian Encarnacion-Strand on the injured list with a right ulnar styloid fracture. They have also moved left-handed pitcher Brandon Williamson to the 60-day injured list to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for Ford. Do you enjoy being confused? If so, you’ve got to be loving the last week of the Mike Ford and Cincinnati Reds timeline. Ford, who was in Triple-A Louisville, opted out of his contract with the club as he was on a minor league deal at the time and had an opt-out date. That put the Reds on the clock, so to speak, to decide whether to grant him his release or to add him to their big league roster. They ultimately decided to give him his release. Well, fast forward a couple of days and the Reds have now signed him to a big league deal according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. Three days ago, Mike F ..read more

The Reds got two late solo home runs from Jonathan India and Tyler Stephenson, but they only had one other hit the rest of the game as their offense continued to struggle. Arizona used a big 7th inning to take a 6-0 lead and never looked back as the Diamondbacks topped Cincinnati in the series opener 6-2. The team activated starting pitcher Frankie Montas, which we knew was coming. Cincinnati is also adding otufielder Conner Capel to the roster, calling him up from Louisville. Heading to the minor leagues are Nick Martini and Bubba Thompson. The Cincinnati Reds announced that Frankie Montas would be their starting pitcher on Tuesday when the club gets back on the field at Great American Ball Park against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He’s currently on the injured list and needs to be activated for that start to happen. There were some questions about who would get sent out to make a spot for him and today we’ve got that answer as the team optioned left-handed reliever Sam Moll to Triple-A Louisville. Cincinnati acquired Sam Moll last year at the trade deadline in a deal that sent Joe Boyle to join the Athletics. Moll came to Cincinnat ..read more
