Well, that was terrible.
On Friday, the Blue Jays started a two-series home stand, losing 12-2 to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first game of the series. Yikes. This brings their record to 13-14, which is a somewhat concerning development.
Almost-Blue Jay Shohei Ohtani was booed in his first plate appearance, but it clearly didn’t affect him as he hit his seventh home run of the season. What could’ve been?

When Shohei Ohtani’s name was announced as part of the Los Angeles Dodgers starting lineup at the Rogers Center Friday night, Blue Jays fans rained boos onto the superstar slugger.
That is understandable, given that their team was once in the right contention to sign the two-way player last December.
When Ohtani took the plate for his first at-bat of the game, those boos got even louder. But it took Ohani all of three pitches to silence those in attendance. Chris Bassitt’s first pitch was taken for a strike, while his second, another sinker, was right in the top of the strike zone, getting cal ..read more

Shohei Ohtani’s flight to Toronto was long, but 140 days after he “took off” from Orange County, he’s arrived.
The only problem? He’s wearing a different shade of blue than the Jays’ colour.
It’s been an arduous road for Blue Jays fans since they were in the mix for the superstar this past offseason, and it’s hard to imagine this weekend will bring any closure. Ohtani’s been off to an excellent start to the season, slashing .358/.419/.670 for a 1.089 OPS, while his 14 doubles lead the major leagues. All the while, his AB per HR rate is down at 18.2 from his career average of 14.6.

There’s some good news one the injury front.
It was reported by multiple sources on Friday afternoon that Ricky Tiedemann has inflammation ulnar nerve in his left elbow, thankfully not a tear. Moreover, the Blue Jays top prospect could be throwing in the near future.
Blue Jays get good news on Ricky Tidedemann, who has ulnar nerve inflammation but no tear, says Blue Jays manager John Schneider. Could be back throwing in another week or 10 days.

It is known that the starting pitching is mint, however the Toronto Blue Jays are also said to be one of the top defensive teams in all of the major leagues. One section of the defence that’s highly praised is the outfield and four specific men who patrol the green.
In this case, we’re going to dissect two of them: Daulton Varsho and Davis Schneider. These two outfield pieces have made some noise with the bats, on the basepaths, and with the leather. Varsho became a Blue Jay as a part of a staggering trade that sent baseball’s top catching prospect, Gabriel Moreno, to the Arizona Diamondbacks ..read more

The Toronto Blue Jays will limp home to the Rogers Centre on Friday night to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the opener of a three-game set after dropping three of four games to the Royals in Kansas City earlier this week.
After taking the series opener Monday against the Royals, the Blue Jays couldn’t put up enough runs to compete with Kansas City over the next three games. The Royals won a rain-shortened 2-1 game Thursday to hand Toronto its third consecutive loss. These two teams will clash again for three more games at Rogers Centre next week.

The Kansas City Royals’ press box broke the news first to media members: “Attention, media it’s over.” No one needed any further explanation to understand what that meant – the game was over for good. With that cut-and-dried announcement, Toronto Blue Jays unceremoniously handed over a game and a series win to the Kansas City Royals after a rain delay that began at 3:38 p.m. in Kansas City. To understand, what exactly transpired, we need to go back to the beginning of the last game of this gruesome four-game series.
The weather was never going to be on anyone’s side. With rain forecast in the ..read more

Father time comes for all of us. In baseball, that finality is expedited. One year, you’re on top of the world, and the next you might not even crack a Major League roster. It’s a cruel and unfortunate fate that bestows every player, eventually.
With that depressing lede out of the way, it ties into an interesting tweet Tom Tango sent out last week. This was something most of us suspected already about the aging curve, but now there’s the data to back it up. At age 31, the bat speed trends downwards.

For the first time since April 7th, the Blue Jays found themselves on the losing end of a series. It came at the hands of the up-and-coming Royals, with all three losses in the series being by a one-run differential. A rain-shortened game, a blunder at first base, and a prospect call-up were all a part of this week – here are my Three Key Things from this series.
The top of the order needs to be better — Plain and simple
