It is known that the starting pitching is mint, however the Toronto Blue Jays are also said to be one of the top defensive teams in all of the major leagues. One section of the defence that’s highly praised is the outfield and four specific men who patrol the green. In this case, we’re going to dissect two of them: Daulton Varsho and Davis Schneider. These two outfield pieces have made some noise with the bats, on the basepaths, and with the leather. Varsho became a Blue Jay as a part of a staggering trade that sent baseball’s top catching prospect, Gabriel Moreno, to the Arizona Diamondbacks ..read more

The Toronto Blue Jays will limp home to the Rogers Centre on Friday night to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the opener of a three-game set after dropping three of four games to the Royals in Kansas City earlier this week. After taking the series opener Monday against the Royals, the Blue Jays couldn’t put up enough runs to compete with Kansas City over the next three games. The Royals won a rain-shortened 2-1 game Thursday to hand Toronto its third consecutive loss. These two teams will clash again for three more games at Rogers Centre next week. The Dodgers are trending in the opposite ..read more

The Kansas City Royals’ press box broke the news first to media members: “Attention, media it’s over.” No one needed any further explanation to understand what that meant – the game was over for good. With that cut-and-dried announcement, Toronto Blue Jays unceremoniously handed over a game and a series win to the Kansas City Royals after a rain delay that began at 3:38 p.m. in Kansas City. To understand, what exactly transpired, we need to go back to the beginning of the last game of this gruesome four-game series. The weather was never going to be on anyone’s side. George Springer and the unfortunate aging curve

Father time comes for all of us. In baseball, that finality is expedited. One year, you’re on top of the world, and the next you might not even crack a Major League roster. It’s a cruel and unfortunate fate that bestows every player, eventually. With that depressing lede out of the way, it ties into an interesting tweet Tom Tango sent out last week. This was something most of us suspected already about the aging curve, but now there’s the data to back it up. At age 31, the bat speed trends downwards. #Statcast Aging Curve for Swing Speed I wouldn't pay too much attention to very left of chart ..read more

Three Key Things: Top of the order discourse continues in Toronto’s series loss to Kansas City
Blue Jays Nation Blog

For the first time since April 7th, the Blue Jays found themselves on the losing end of a series. It came at the hands of the up-and-coming Royals, with all three losses in the series being by a one-run differential. A rain-shortened game, a blunder at first base, and a prospect call-up were all a part of this week – here are my Three Key Things from this series. The top of the order needs to be better — Plain and simple I’ll give these guys their flowers; Bo Bichette’s three-run triple was a critical component to Monday night’s win, and George Springer’s double and home run on Wednesday were ..read more

Well, that one was weird. On Thursday afternoon/evening, the Toronto Blue Jays played their final game of a four-game series against the Kansas Royals, falling 2-1 in five innings (we’ll get there), bringing their record to 13-13. The Royals jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a Salvador Pérez home run, which was all that the Royals would need to put this game to bed. The bad news is that the Blue Jays organization lost all their games on Wednesday. With all four affiliates losing on Wednesday, plus the Toronto Blue Jays’ loss to the Kansas City Royals, this is what we refer to as an “organizational sweep”. It’s not great. Let’s dig into what happened on the minor league side. Buffalo blown out The start of a new series saw the Buffalo Bisons drop the opener 8-2, moving their record to 12-9, which is third in the International League East. Will Robertson hit his fifth home run of the season, which was arguably one of the lone bright spots of the game. Brian ..read more

GDB 26.0: Blue Jays face potential rain delay against Royals
Blue Jays Nation Blog
by Zach Laing

As the Blue Jays and Royals look to hit the field for their final game of a four-game set, they face heavy rain in Kanas City. Weather forecasts have the area around Kaufmann Stadium getting pounded with rain, and RotoGrinders’ Kevin Roth is predicting a rain delay, at the very least. “(It) certainly doesn’t look like it will be getting played on time,” he said. “We should see heavy rain in the rain around game time, so a late start and play (kicking it into the late afternoon) looks like the only way to get this one in. If they don’t feel like being that patient and/or if the field ..read more
