Aside form completing the 6 World Major Marathons and a Half Marathon in all 50 United States, I want to run on all 7 continents. So, a few years ago (pre-COVID), I joined the 7 Continents Club. I guess I never read the fine print. It took one of the marathon trips with Marathon Tours and Travel to realize that the rules for the Travel Seven Continents Club is that the races need to be all marathons or all half marathons to meet the seven continents club criteria. Well, after several problems with my IBD while training for the marathons, I decided that six would be it for me. I don't want ..read more

I went to Iowa and ran The Hillbilly Hike Half Marathon! I had to run this race. I so desperately wanted the race shirt. Get this, it is a picture of a Hillbilly, with a corn husk pipe running with a straw hat and boots.  I Had to Have this Shirt! I never told this story publicly, but a few years ago, pre-COVID, when I owned a wellness center with cryotherapy and my nutrition office, a runner came in. He wanted to use the Normatec Compression boots. Love these boots! I think Hypervolt bought Normatec now, but this was 2019. This runner made me very upset because he accused me ..read more

Albuquerque’s Duke City Marathon had its 37th annual event in October 2021. The race is on a beautiful scenic road along the banks of the Rio Grande. You can run a full marathon, marathon relay, 10K and 5K in addition to the half marathon. Yes, it was yet another race at altitude. It's an out and back course with an elevation profile that ranges between 4,900ft-5,100ft. So, basically, you run slightly uphill for the entire half marathon .... Yeay! Albuquerque is in the middle of New Mexico. We did not go hot air ballooning ...  ~ You know you are a runner because you like to keep your fee ..read more

The Montana Marathon includes a Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, a Virtual Marathon, a Virtual Half Marathon and a Virtual 10K. I ran the Half Marathon.  Ugh - yes, another race at altitude.  Colorado was rough, and Montana had it's moments as well. Billings is at about 3,123 feet altitude but the race starts a little higher up at about 3700 feet. It ends at about 3100 feet, with some minor hills along the way. I try to pick a small gradient downhill when running any race above 2500 feet, which is when I start to feel the change in altitude. I guess that's what you get living near sea ..read more

Say Cheeeese! Cheese Head Run, Wisconsin On August 14, 2021, I ran the Cheesehead Run Half Marathon! The race follows along the rolling hills of Calumet County in rural eastern Wisconsin. It was a very well-organized out and back that started in a small mid-western town called Hillbert, Wisconsin. Although the race mentioned some long uphill stretches, it was to me a nice flat course with a few miles on a trail, called the Fox River Trail. I was grateful for the trail because as the race proceeded, the sun felt quite strong. In spite of being lactose intolerant, I thought this race w ..read more

Ready, Set, Goooo! On July 16th, 2021, about 20 months after my last half marathon, I ran the Prairie Dog Half in Castle Rock, Colorado. It was a very challenging course. It was also very hot.  My heart is heavy writing this post because as I reached mile 10-ish, I was told there was an emergency on the course. All runners were to be re-directed. I stopped and yelled, "Everyone pray!" Then I looked at the woman, who definitely had panic in her eyes, and said, "I am from New Jersey, I don't know where I am going." She told me to follow the other runners. There was one younger ..read more

This post has been a long time coming! I ran my half in Indiana in November. It was very cold! It can take me awhile to warm up when it's cold - and I didn't feel warm until about 10-miles in. At the 10-mile point, there was a water stop. I remember taking out the extra hand warmers in my pockets and tossing then to a young female volunteer, who looked as if she were freezing! I chose the Veteran's Half Marathon in Columbus City, Indiana because the race honors all who served in the armed forces. Freedom is NOT Free. Honestly, there's just not enough road to say; "Thank you!". It was the 1 ..read more

Leading Ladies Half Marathon I was so excited to go to South Dakota! I couldn't wait to see Mt Rushmore, The Badlands - Sturgis and maybe take a trip to see Devil's Tower in Wyoming. Wow! Mt Rushmore! Can you name all four presidents? No, Ron is not one of them! LOL!I didn't choose The Leading Ladies Half Marathon in Spearfish South Dakota to go sightseeing, I honestly chose this race because it was a downhill race. I was having trouble with my Crohn's Disease and I thought it would be a good one to do while my Crohn's was active. Maybe easier because it was downhill. Was I glad I did? A ..read more

Tokyo Marathon 2019The marathon is a mental game, a humbling experience that also requires a little physical endurance. If you cannot withstand the mental and physical pounding during the training, you will likely get injured and never make it to the start.  If you cannot withstand the mental and physical pounding for the 26.2+ miles, you will likely falter - and you may not make it to the finish.  If you finish in the time you hoped for - it is exhilarating.  If you finish far past the point of where you hoped to finish - you are left with a quasi feeling of accomplishment, playing more ment ..read more
