June 12, 2022 - Sarasota, Florida Triangle Rowing Club (TRC) made club history by earning two gold medals at the USRowing Youth Nationals Regatta, competing against the nation's top youth clubs and crews. Athletes qualified to compete at the Nationals regatta by placing in the top 4 of their event at one of the USRowing Regionals Regattas held around the country. This year TRC qualified a team record 5 crews to move forward to Nationals. Gold medals were won in the Men's Youth 2- (Cole Nordby, Aidan Humbert) and the Women's U17 1x (Annelise Hahl). Sarasota, Florida - May 15, 2022 TRC athletes made the trip to hot and sunny Sarasota to compete at the USRowing Southeast Regionals regatta. There were over 380 entries in 40 events, and TRC made team history by qualifying 4 boats to compete at the USRowing Youth National Championships in June. In addition, 3 of those crews won a medal! Oak Ridge, TN - April 24, 2022 Triangle Rowing Club’s 2022 season continued at the Dogwood Junior Championship regatta, where they competed over 2 days against 86 other clubs. There were over 580 entries, and each TRC entry advanced out of Saturday’s time trials. Chapel Hill, NC - March 26, 2022 The UNC Crew team marked their 50th Anniversary in 2020. Due to Covid restrictions they were unable to gather to celebrate this milestone until March 2022. At the dinner celebrating 50 years of Carolina Rowing, TRC's Coach Shaffer was honored as part of the inaugural inductees in the Carolina Order of the Golden Oar Hall of Fame. In Augusta, GA on November 13th, 2021, Triangle Rowing Club’s high school athletes competed at Head of the South, TRC’s last regatta of the fall season. In 2019, TRC took home the first place overall points trophy, signifying the most points placed in each event raced. Triangle athletes fought hard in 2021, and achieved the Youth Points trophy with a total of 202 points accumulated from the 7 gold medals, 1 silver, and 1 bronze. In Chattanooga, TN on November 6-7, 2021, Triangle Rowing Club earned many high placements at the annual Head of the Hooch! Head of the Hooch is one of the largest autumnal regattas in the south, generating over 2,000 entries from around 180 teams. It is hosted on the Chattanooga River in Tennessee, a gorgeous venue where the athletes navigate a ~4,500m course and race underneath bridges teeming with supporters and fans. Head of the Charles Regatta (HOCR), started in 1965, is the largest two-day regatta in the world. This year over 11,000 rowers came from around the world, with hundreds of thousands of spectators cheering them on. The crews race down the twisting Charles River in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with coxswains and blind-boat bowers navigating a tough course packed with other competing boats that runs under 5 bridges topped with spectators.
