Applaud the Devils for Trying Something Different with New Jersey
The Hockey News
by Adam Proteau

Although the reveal has met with mixed results among the team’s fans, the Devils going with the more familiar/colloquial “Jersey” is a good choice that likely will have pop culture ramifications when celebrities from New Jersey embrace this new design. Before we get too deep into this column, let’s be honest: talking about NHL jerseys is about as subjective as it gets. For example – I know the Colorado Avalanche’s jersey has been the same forever, but I’ve never had much time for it, and I think it’s long past due for alterations and a new design. But I get that many Avs fans don’t want it to ..read more

Nazem Kadri is Playing the Best Hockey of His Career
The Hockey News
by Mike Stephens

Kadri has been a dominant force for the Colorado Avalanche as of late, and the timing couldn't have been better for the pending UFA. Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports Nazem Kadri is killin' it.  If you live on the east coast and enjoy going to bed at a reasonable hour, that may be news to you. But after yet another multi-point performance last night, Kadri's early-season production has officially reached the point where it cannot be ignored.  The man is riding a nine-game point streak, for Pete's sake, with 23 points in 15 games. That's a 109-point pace over 82 games, which would absolute ..read more

Who might they target? Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports The New York Rangers are off to a good start this season, winning 11 of their first 18 games. However, Sammy Blais' season-ending knee injury and Vitali Kravtsov's departure to Russia leaves them in the market for what TSN's Darren Dreger called a “middle-six forward”. Mangiapane is Making a Strong Case for Canada's Olympic Team
The Hockey News
by Steven Ellis

From an overage draft prospect to a legitimate first-line NHLer, Andrew Mangiapane has played some incredible hockey this year, and it's coming at the best possible time for the Flames – and, potentially, Hockey Canada. Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports What can't be said about Andrew Mangiapane's game right now? With 15 goals and 17 points in 19 games, his stat line looks hilariously lopsided. But at this point in the season, only Leon Draisaitl (18) has more goals than Mangiapane, who sits tied with Alex Ovechkin in the second spot. At this rate, he'll have beaten his previous career-high of 18 ..read more

The Devils' Third Jersey Has Arrived
The Hockey News
by Ryan Kennedy

For the first time in the franchise's history, New Jersey will have a different crest on the front. And a Devils icon played a big role. For the first time in nearly 40 years of existence, the New Jersey Devils have a third jersey - and if you've got a problem with it, take it up with the man who led the design team: Hall of Fame icon Marty Brodeur. The super-secretive initiative began three years ago and according to Devils senior VP of marketing Jillian Frechette (who was also part of the design team with Brodeur), only a handful of people knew about the project in the early months. But they ..read more

Mike Murphy: Counting the Women's Hockey Game
The Hockey News
by Jared Clinton

Due to neglect and even acts of God, there was plenty missing when it came to historical stats for the women’s game. One man is doing his darndest to fill in the gaps. Mike Murphy would be the first to admit he’d have no chance one-on-one with Hayley Wickenheiser. The Hall of Famer is one of the game’s most gargantuan figures and a superstar who torched just about any opponent who tried to slow her down. That’s exactly why Murphy finds humor in being the one to take a goal or two away from Wickenheiser over the years. As the proprietor of Their Hockey Counts (theirhockeycounts.com), the most ..read more
