During week two, we had the opportunity to learn about Beijing’s Central Axis and later take a trip to the Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall to further our understanding of how the concepts of symmetry, balance, and order have been applied to city planning throughout Beijing’s history.&n ..read more

Written by Silas Gaughran-Bedell, (American University), Student Correspondent for CET Jordan, Spring 2024 Amman has developed into one of the Arab World’s premiere cities for Arabic learning, hosting many great programs like our very own CET Jordan. The city has become a hub for international students engaging in Arabic language skills, and for Jordanians, the hospitable culture has allowed them to engage seamlessly in cross-cultural dialogues, as well as creating teaching opportunities. However, Amman’s prominence as a center for Arabic learning is a recent transformation, as progr ..read more

by Megan Mancenido

Our JEDI Action Plan consists of specific long-term goals to work towards transforming our workplace, programs, and industries to be more just, equitable, diverse, and inclusive.  Every employee contributes to this work, and at the end of every year we come together as an organization to evaluate our progress. Department leaders’ progress reports and goals for the future are evaluated anonymously by volunteers at every level of the organization before being published in preparation for next year’s work. After three years of hard work, intensive review, and lessons learned, we expanded ..read more

Photos by Yuna Guu (ArtCenter College of Design), Student Correspondent for AICAD in Japan, Spring 2024 Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan During one of our weekends, I went with a few friends I made in the program to the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan. It’s located near the port of Osaka, and one of the largest aquariums in the world. Here, you can see whale sharks and other marine life from all over the world.  Weekend Trips with Friends For all the students concerned about the academic program being too intensive and being restricted to only Osaka—worry not! We had a long weekend, so ..read more

Written by Lila Frost, (Cornell University), CET Prague, Spring 2024 Several weeks ago, my whole CET class traveled together to Český Krumlov, a beautiful city in South Bohemia. Several of my peers had already traveled outside Prague, but at this point in the semester, it was my first venture outside the city. We woke up early, took the tram to a bus station near the dancing house, boarded a double-decker bus, and rode off together through the country. I fell asleep on the bus but awoke periodically to appreciate the green fields and natural landscape. Český Krumlov is best known for ..read more

Written by Anjali Mehta (University of Virginia), Student Correspondent for CET Siena, Spring 2024 8:00 AM  Wake up! I wake up and get ready usually around 8 to 8:30 AM, even though my first class isn’t until 11 AM. I like to rise early and have peaceful, slow mornings. I usually get ready, eat breakfast, and do some homework. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, and Italians don’t really do big breakfasts. So, I have taken it upon myself to try to make it for myself each day. Then, on the way to classes, I usually grab a cappuccino.  8:30 AM  Today’s schedu ..read more

#CETvotes2024: Study Abroad + the Election It might be tempting to stay in the US during presidential election season, but studying abroad this fall presents the opportunity to experience an American election from an entirely different viewpoint. Not only will your CET program help you make the most of this election season, you’ll also learn what political engagement means for you beyond your home base. Get ready for taxi drivers to ask you who has your vote, for local news channels to provide an outsider’s perspective to the headlines, and—of course—get ready to vote from abroad ..read more

The Beginning of a Semester in Shanghai
CET Academic Programs
by Julie Kim

Written by Natalie Chen (Washington University in St. Louis), Student Correspondent for CET Shanghai, Spring 2024 Due to CET Shanghai’s mid-February start date—a result of Chinese New Year celebrations—I felt like I had more time than most of my peers to think about the upcoming semester. Many of my friends from college had left for their study abroad programs in early January, and my friends returning to WashU had begun their semesters around the same time as well. Some people were reporting having a fantastic time, others were struggling to adjust, and many were experiencing a ..read more
