LSS:I would like to have my daughter (who is in 5K) put in another classroom. How would I go about doing this? Had anyone done this? Any advice? I might have to move her to a different school, if they won’t let me, which I already know how to do that. I just would like her to stay in the same school if at all possible. TIA. No bullying or being mean please. Thank you submitted by /u/Angelstarbow [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

My baby girl is biracial in a predominantly white school. From what I have seen there are only 3-4 other biracial kids there. Recently she has come home upset about it and also had a small breakdown in school that required lots of hugs and reassurance from her teacher. Then a few days ago she asked me what the n-word was and said another kid in her class told her about it. I talked it over with her and I brought it up at the parent teacher conference. The teacher was shocked and upset and said she would look into it and also speak to the principal. I offered to loan her some of the many books ..read more

Kindergartener going first/second combo class

My son is one of the brighter students and is testing at a higher lever for reading and math than most of the other kids in his class. Next year there is a first grade class and a first/second combo class. Because he is one of the more advanced students they are suggesting he’s go into the combo class. I don’t know how I feel about this…from what I’ve observed of the combo teacher she seems to be harsh and sometimes yell at the kids. I haven’t really seen her too often but she wears a speaker. The other teacher is younger and a newer teacher. I haven’t really observed her interacting with the ..read more

Question for parents who have “redshirted”

Has your kid caught any flak from their peers for being “held back”? I’m strongly considering giving my December born boy (we’re in Canada where the cut off is Dec 31st - I know it’s different in the US!) a year to mature. It kind of worries me that he won’t be on any of the same sports teams as his classmates and I worry he’ll feel different by being held back instead of being with kids born in the same birth year. I don’t believe that this should be the basis of my decision by any means and I’ll do whatever I think is conducive to a learning environment where he will thrive, so I guess I’m ..read more

Why might a 5 year old still be putting everything in their mouth?

I’m an assistant btw, we have a 5 year old student who puts everything in her mouth, eats crayons, like straight up chews them up and swallows them.. you can see them all in her teeth, she was chewing on a quarter yesterday, she just found a sewing needle somewhere, definitely not the classroom, and had it in her mouth, band aids, rubber bands she finds, today she ate a marker and it was all over her lips, tongue, and under her nose. I imagine the markers, coins and crayons taste awful .. so why might she be doing that? Head teacher is going to suggest talking to a Dr but I’m just curious if ..read more

My daughter is very sensitive how to I help her navigate girls being mean and other situations? She goes to a small private school, there are 9 girls in her class and 7 of them have been together since preschool starting at age 3. At drop off today a girl told my daughter she couldn’t play with them. My daughter started crying. There were other girls who also weren’t allowed to play with the girl and her friend. I asked my daughter why not play with them? She had a hard time calming down. My daughter frequently plays with this girl and they go on playdates outside of school. My child complain ..read more

A child hitting other children (including mine) - How to react as parent?

I have two kids (A, B) in that kindergarten. Two years ago one of them broke a bone due to an incident with another child (C). Asked the teacher about what happened and with whom, got the answer: A was playing with another child (due to privacy reasons the name cannot be told to me) and during running around A fell and the other child fell on her and a bone broke. Asked A at home, she told me "I do not want to tell you what happened." Some time later B told me (I did not ask her) that she saw it, and C (now I knew the name) pushed her over and then he fell(?) on her - maybe he pushed her too ..read more
