Today the Chancellor delivered his Autumn Budget and Spending Review 2021. In his announcement, Rishi Sunak warned of challenging months ahead as the country continues to recover following the Coronavirus pandemic impact and stated that there is work to do to prepare for a post-COVID economy. That said, remained positive that we are entering a new age of optimism. The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) has been extended for the second time in a week, the Chancellor confirming that the CJRS will now run until the 31st March 2021. On 5th November, the government announced a further extension to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS). The scheme will no longer end as previously announced on 2nd December 2020 having been extended to 31st March 2021. You will be able to access the extended CJRS even if you have not previously made a claim. The extended CJRS will operate as the previous scheme did, with businesses having the flexibility to bring furloughed employees back to work on a part-time basis or furlough them full-time. As part of his ‘Plan for Jobs’ announced back in July, Rishi Sunak unveiled the Job Retention Bonus. Further guidance has now been released confirming that the online portal to facilitate claims will be open from 15th February 2021 to 31st March 2021.
