Two physiotherapists talk about how they incorporate acupuncture into their practices, and the different types of patients they see. Watch their video conversation as they also answer the question of the differences between acupuncture and dry needling. Fedra Salias, PT, CAFCI, works mostly with neuro patients – people with stroke, spinal cord injury. She finds acupuncture very helpful with restricted range of motion, pain, and inflammation. She uses head points to help with the fogginess some stroke patients experience. Sheila Williams, BMRPT, CAFCI, saw mostly orthopedic/musculoskeletal ty ..read more

Most chiropractors need 200 hours of training before they can use needles in practice. After consulting with The College of Chiropractors of Alberta and with the College of Chiropractors of Ontario, we now offer two different paths to those 200 hours. Check with your regulator to see what paths are open to you. The Acupuncture Path The first path offers 200 hours of training totally in acupuncture. Chiropractors take the 4 courses in our Acupuncture Core Program and then take the cumulative Level 2 written and practical examinations to make up their 200 hours of training. The health and safety of our students and instructors is a priority. Throughout the pandemic, we have been offering in-person training when we could safely do so, and at times, following public health guidelines, we have paused in-person components of courses. Currently, in-person components are being held and we ensure there are safety protocols in place including daily screening, masking, and hand cleaning. As part of our concern for the health and safety of course participants, we require students and faculty to be fully vaccinated to participate in in-person training. We define fully vacci ..read more

We had last announced that the onsite component of courses would not be held prior to June 30th due to covid-19. Since that announcement, some provinces have moved to stage 3 of reopening, and some restrictions are being relaxed re group size. Many of you are back to work, albeit with stringent safety requirements in place. We are monitoring those requirements in each province, by profession. We are therefore preparing to move forward with the onsite component of courses in certain provinces. If you are not local to a rescheduled course, you will need to be aware of travel restrictions. We are postponing the onsite components of courses until after April 30th. We are monitoring advisories from various provincial health agencies and Health Canada. Although our courses are not large gatherings and most students are local to them, the nature of the courses themselves prevent social distancing. We use hand sanitizer in all our courses and gloves in the dry needling courses, but students are still touching each other and in very close proximity as they learn needling techniques. We think it is best to reschedule. We will continue to follow public health advisories and will plan ne ..read more
