As the amateur season got underway in the Republic of Ireland last month, we have a round up of the top news so far from the RIBSA snooker association. Brendan O’Donoghue who plays in the New Institute snooker club in Nenagh Co Tipperary has one the first senior ranking event of the season beating Robert Murphy from the Q club Wicklow by 4-3. On September 25th, Colm Gilcreest won the first Masters events on the RIBSA calendar, beating John Torpey by 3-1 in a epic final. Often people don’t know how or who invented snooker so lets take a look at how it all began. Snooker as most people will know originated from Billiards in the 1800’s. Billiards itself was believed to be invented in or around the 15th century, England and some people argue that it originated from croquet although this is unproven. Ok when it comes to buying snooker cues, I’ve mainly bought handmade cues from a variety of cue makers in or around the British Isles. These took time to build and i always got exactly what i ordered but they were by no means cheap. My mother used to tell us growing up, if you buy cheap you buy twice and I’ve lived with that rule to this day. For a couple of years now, I have been browsing snooker products on websites but i always was interested in these “cheap” cues you can find on Amazon and Ebay.
